I'm finding Facebook to be a real bore lately. I'm thinking of deleting it or not checking in so often.

As I wait in the line at the grocery store staring at the magazine rack I realize people are way to concern about celebrity's lives. In an ideal world, we'd have something called the Celebrity Extermination Army, which would serve not only to kill these useless sacks of flesh but would also, by doing so, discourage others from seeking that status. The drooling imbeciles who follow them would presumably be so bereft that they'd do humanity a favor & kill themselves en masse. Yes, I'm extra-cheerful today. Good thing tomorrow isn't a contrived day devoted to making people like me realize all the more painfully how they never actually had fathers worthy of the name & how pathetically misplaced their own aspirations of having children proved to be as their hopeless lives unfolded. Yay for mixed-state bipolar with hypomania. Yay yay yay. I often wonder why people seem so concerned with them, outside of their craft. I mean they are doing a job they're paid for, be it acting, making music, or writing, etc. I thankfully would say I have not, and would care not to meet any celebrities. They are concerned with the ins and outs of my life, why waste my time, energy and brain matter on theirs? If you enjoy what they do, great, end it at that. At least I can, with those who don't make their life the subject of what they do, like Bukowski, Miller, or Burroughs. I will say that it's probably a good gauge for who is reading these magazines still, at least the target demographics. When Ben Affleck and whoever his wife is (I think Jen was the name, you like I should know these people on first name basis) get half the cover for their marriage troubles and Robert Wagner gets one little square for his "shocking life threatening reveal", I guess us old folks aint the ones reading em. Heh, lol, I enjoy my being out of touch. When seeing an article about one of the comic conventions banning selfie sticks, I had to look up what selfie sticks were to know what was being banned. Based on someone's comment, e-cigs, vaps, and drones need to be banned too. The later I at least narrowed down to a lack of connection to the military or insect social structures.  Happy Father's Day to all the fathers here and their families. Better late than never ... hope every father had a good one yesterday. I'm finding Facebook to be a real bore lately. I'm thinking of deleting it or not checking in so often. I log on about once a year the day my mother in law died. None of the family on my side I want to keep in contact with it is on it, so it's fairly pointless for me. |

I'm finding Facebook to be a real bore lately. I'm thinking of deleting it or not checking in so often. The problem with facebook and other social media that is similar to it, is that it is not really interactive. With the option of "like" it gives most people who drop by that site to just click "like" and not type a reply. It isn't like the community message boards where like-minded people are more than likely to post to share information in regards to something like-minded people have an interest on. Facebook is geared towards just dropping by and seeing what's there and moving on to something else. |

In all seriousness, I have over 200 Facebook "friends", but most are just acquaintances from my work as a musician. It's very important to me to unfollow the majority of people I'm so-called "friends" with and just follow the comments and posts of people I actually give a damn about instead. There are plenty of tools on FB to help you filter what appears in your newsfeed and using them successfully is essential to having a good FB experience, in my view. If a lot of your friends make dull, boring posts, unfollow them or change their status from "close friends" to "acquaintances" in your friends list. You don't have to necessarily unfriend anybody or close down your account. |

In all seriousness, I have over 200 Facebook "friends", but most are just acquaintances from my work as a musician. It's very important to me to unfollow the majority of people I'm so-called "friends" with and just follow the comments and posts of people I actually give a damn about instead. One of the things, for me, with facebook is, I RARELY have one single group of friends who gives a p!ss about every aspect of everything I share on my facebook.
Most of my friends on facebook are dog owners because, when I first signed up for facebook, it automatically created a personal page for me, but left it the same as my business name. So, people "friended" me, and I didn't know any better back then. Now, I'm afraid if I unfriend them, they'll be offended, and a lot of them are customers.
So! Most of the time unless I am posting about dogs/pets/animals, I don't get many likes or comments.
Seriously. I had gotten a pretty nasty cut from a metal glue can once, posted up a pic, and expressed my irrational concerns for possibly getting, and then dying from, tetanus. With 615 friends, I got 6 likes and a comment about how one has to have a soul to bleed or something.
But if I post a picture of a dog?
Like, 15 likes before my screen refreshes from posting the pic.

I have no Facebook account, Twitter handle, or Instagram whatever. I'm not interested in "following" anyone to get their instant opinions on the world in 140 characters or less, nor do I want to read people's status updates, as though the fact that you just got a great deal on bananas at the local market impacts my life in any way, shape or form (unless I really want to buy bananas at that exact moment, which I can assure you I do not). Besides, if I want to read what a bunch of lameoids are thinking about and doing, I'll just log on here and hang out with you folks |

While I see it's value in connecting with friends and relations you might not usually get a chance to talk with, it's SO much just a data mine it really makes me concerned. The most social media-y thing I do is Good Reads... unless you count here I absolutely wholeheartedly agree 100 percent on this one. Some of the most insightful messages on various books can be received from Good Reads members. The best part about Good Reads is that you get varying viewpoints depending on which part of the world is responding to your inquiry. For example, you will get a totally different insightful response from someone in Lexington, Kentucky, USA as opposed to a middle aged metropolitan dweller from lets say NYC, USA, as opposed to a college student from Cairo, Egypt. The thing that's really interesting is that responses from the Middle East would always say glowing things about the USA and the landmarks and city, and then when it comes to the U.S. government they would list what atrocities the U.S. government did or arranged in their country(ies). The thing with responses from Great Britain/United Kingdom when it comes to literature and English Literature in particular, is that they are very full of information and share all sorts of history and insight regarding that particular book. Russian or former Soviet Union responses are fantastic when the inquiry is about Tolstoy, Dostoevsyky, Chekhov, or any other Russian authors, you will get heratfelt and nationalistic responses from them. Good Reads is one of the most enlightening websites when it comes to printed books. Now, when it comes to comic books, I know I have only been a member of this website for less than two weeks, but I have to say this website is the most enlightening website when it comes to comic books, especially the classic ones. There are no one or two word responses, and all posts are very sensical. |

Facebook, of course, is where I have been spending most of my non-work-related online time & energy the last several months instead of here &/or (to a lesser extent) Baseball Think Factory. With any luck that has changed with my leaving a rather large (8,100+ & steadily growing) local group Sunday.
Of course, the fallout from that on my own page (I was probably the group's most prolific poster, & certainly one of the more controversial figures, given my inability not to be sarcastic or ultra-lefty) has kept me occupied, not to mention posts on guns & such in the wake of the South Carolina horror ... Basically, people in the U.S. are flat-out psychotic on the subject of guns. A large percentage of the whole damned nation could do with a good regimen of ECT or something equally drastic. And I assume the South is the worst of all, though I suspect the West is no walk in the park for non-ammosexuals.
