Not really but as an aside, it does help that. Also keeps me warm in a cold, A/C environment.

My family used to be in the wholesale beverage business selling Dr Pepper, 7-Up, RC Cola, A&W, Squirt, Crush, Nehi, Canada Dry and related spin-off brands.

We didn't get into the business until I was in high school, and worked there as I could through college, including a chain of liquor stores my parents owned.

I used to just yank whatever out of inventory and drink it. Had at least a couple a day and sometimes more. Now, I hardly ever drink it, though I have a weakness for RC if and when I ever see it, which is less and less often.

One of the best products we ever sold was 



It was tested marketed in Iowa and Nebraska and failed miserably.

The marketing failed.

We did lots of taste testing in supermarkets with product on sale and it did very well.

Other areas didn't support it as strongly.

We also had Citrus 7 with 10% real fruit juice and Like Cola.  They all did well for us, and Like was made from the real cola nut (which my dad still has some).

So what did 7-Up Gold taste like ?

From Complex.com :

"Gold was darker in color, with a flavor closer to a spicy ginger ale, robust with notes of cinnamon and apple. Sounds great, right? It was! But it was tragically misunderstood. People didn't know what to make of Gold (the name does a piss-poor job at describing the taste), and the soda itself appeared antithetical to regular 7UP."

Well, it was gold in color but had caffeine, the first time a 7-Up product had it, and it was designed to compliment a cola palate.

Damn shame it's gone.

I was on my longest streak ever for no illnesses in a school year, but I've got one brewing too. 'Tis the season.

We had to go to a funeral for my wife's aunt on Thursday, where there were a lot of sick folks hacking coughs filling the room, and when we woke up on Friday, my wife was sick as a dog with the cold and called out of work, by Friday night I was coming down with it. I managed to get through Saturday, but it licked my arse today. Every time I open up the door to let the dog out, the blast of cold air starts me on a coughing jag. The worst part of it is that after having had several abdominal surgeries a decade back, coughing pulls on a lot of the scar tissue still and if I cough to much it feels like someone has used my abdomen for a punching bag, which is how I have felt most of the day today. I don't have to work until tomorrow night so I am hoping to feel up to it by then. I do have Tuesday off, so I just need to feel well enough to get through one night.
