Slam_Bradley Over the weekend my 13 year old son came in when I was watching Clone Wars to ask me something about Green Arrow, in comparison to the show Arrow. After the conversation I got to thinking I didn't have as much Oliver Queen GA as I did Conner Hawke. But I got out Longbow Hunters, and he actually sat and read all three issues, there while I watched TV. It's the first comic he's really read. Other books he glances through, or may read one issue and he gets bored. My wife watches Arrow too, and she said he told her the following day that he liked those books but wished they would have ended the story. (I haven't read it in a long enough time to remember how the book ends.) So I am thinking of getting him the first few TPB of the Mike Grell run of GA. Plus the fact that he's never been entertained by any superhero to the extent he has with GA by watching Arrow. So I figured if he liked Longbow Hunters, he might like more Mike Grell GA. If he likes Arrow, look at the Green Arrow Year One trade by Andy Diggle and Jock. It's more modern, but it is the inspiration for Ollie's origin on the show and one of the few post-Grell GA books I really liked. -M Thats perfect! Thanks M, I'll give that a shot first.

Valentines day- created by Card companies. True or false? Either that or factories of cinnamon-flavoured, heart-shaped candy.

Valentine's Day is chalky and unpleasant.

I managed to pick up some side work appraising a friend of a friend's collection. Hopefully, there are some good Daredevils in there.

Will do, but I have a creeping suspicion that there are going to be a lot of 90's Image and similar in there.

So I am at school right now and bored out of my mind. Teaching is much of my life. I adored what I do. But I took on a student teacher this semester because I wanted to share the wealth and help more students by helping a future teacher. Now he's running my classroom, and I have him at the point where he's nearly a superstar.
Thus, I have NOTHING to do.
Every day.
For full 8 hour workdays.
I'm out of my mind bored right now. I should be getting permission today to no longer be in the room while he teaches, so I guess I can catch up on reading and movie watching in the faculty lounge (not comfortable doing comic reviews at work), but this all feels so weird. I'm not used to wasting time at work, but I'm supposed to be here and literally have nothing to do.
I miss being busy and productive.

Hmm.. maybe doing comic reviews would actually look more appropriate for a setting than watching a movie? I could understand not wanting to bring in paper comics, but maybe if you had some digital comics so it was discreet, seeing a teacher writing something would not look out of place, no? I know Marvel has an all-you-can-eat sub for something like $10-15 a month. Not sure about the others. Any hobbies or interest areas you'd like to research?

It's less the administration I worry about than my colleagues. Most of them have no idea how geeky I actually am, and I'm a pretty high profile teacher in our building. I think I could get away with reading tpbs there, but floppies elicit an entirely different sort of prejudice from non-comic readers. More than that, though, we use macs at work, so the software I use to edit photos I snap of relevant panels goes out the window, and photoshop is blocked too. Essentially, I could not easily/comfortably do reviews the way I normally do them. As for other hobbies, maybe I'll catch up on classic film a little more.
