A female artist from Montreal created this great image to celebrate all women on March 8th. The message conveyed was "we are all beautiful". (*Warning*, the photo shows one instance of a t-shirt with boobs clumsily drawn on it with a sharpie.) It generated a $#i%storm of negative comments on Facebook. Not the t-shirt; the faces. Because blackface, because cultural appropriation, because Huff Puff Indignation. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Welcome to the 21st Century, where there is nothing that will not offend at least one person, who will then raise it to an Armageddon-level proportion of outrage through social media.

I had one of those little moments yesterday that are both completely wonderful and absolutely unexpected.
My company pays out annual bonuses based on both individual, team, and company performance. I only started there in October, and in a conversation with my supervisor earlier in the week, she said that her boss, a senior manager, had advocated for me to receive one but was denied because I had not put in a full quarter with the company last year, so I wasn't even thinking about it as the week drew to a close. No big deal, as I've always looked at bonuses as something not to expect, especially in this case, so I resigned myself to the fact that I would need to wait until next year.
When I looked at my bank account online on Friday morning, it seemed a little larger than usual, so I looked at the detail and saw that I had in fact gotten a pro-rated portion of the bonus pool based on what I earned with the company last year. It's not enough for a Disney vacation or anything, maybe not even a long weekend somewhere to be honest, but it's something I wasn't counting on getting, so now we have a little bit extra to catch up on the money we lost last year when I was out of work for 8 months.
Life is funny sometimes.

I'm going to watch Twilight Zone through on Netflix since its been a while. I was reading Sterling's page on Wikipedia and did realize, among him dying at 50 :-( ,but that he wrote and narrated Night Gallery. What's people's opinion on this series for someone that really likes TZ?
Also I know get the reference, reading about Night Gallery, the Simpsons did on a Treehouse of Terror episode where they showcased a mural for each segment of the episode with Bart narrating a synopsis.
Edit: Watching "Mr Denton on Doomsday" episode with a young Martin Landau, and was reading the Wikipedia page on the episode and never knew that Simpsons' character Troy McClure was model after actor Doug McClure who was a big fan of the series. I kept looking at Doug McClure in the episode and asking myself why does he seem so familiar? Crazy little reveal for me there, as looking at his filmography I don't think I've seen him in anything and don't really remember this particular TZ episode.

Night Gallery has a bit of a different tone than TZ, focusing more on horror and supernatural subject matter than science fiction. The quality of the series was uneven, probably because Serling had much less control over content than he had with TZ, although like the earlier series, Night Gallery benefits from Serling himself providing many of the scripts, almost all adapted from other works. Entertaining and full of stars of the period, Night Gallery never quite rises to the level of polish exhibited by its predecessor. My personal favorite of the series is "Pickman's Model," adapted from a short story by Lovecraft. YMMV. I believe Troy McClure is loosely based on actors Troy Donahue and Doug McClure, two largely interchangeable B-list actors of the 50s & 60s, as well as a little bit of Phil Hartman's own personality.

Thanks for the insight Phil. And yeah I neglected to mention Troy Donahue. Wikipedia kinda played his role down. I think I'll get it coming on Netflix DVD since it's not on instant viewing. I'm watching "Walking Distance" now and found out actor Gig Young, who looks a lot like Robert Wagner to me, supposedly killed his wife and himself. :-( I'm feeling like I should stop reading Wikipedia pages now.

Ah, probably my favorite TZ episode. Who among us hasn't at one point or another longed to return to a simpler, more innocent time. Serling's writing here is among the finest of his career, and Martin's monologue when he realizes he is an unwelcome intrusion in his own past is heart-breaking. Gig Young was a very troubled man, largely due to alcoholism. He had been Mel Brooks' first choice for the role of The Waco Kid in Blazing Saddles, but when Young arrived on set disheveled and trembling, it was clear he would not be capable of performing. Gene Wilder replaced him. I think Young's final role was in Game of Death, the famously shoddy attempt to salvage a viable Bruce Lee film from a few existing fight scenes and a less-than-convincing double (as well as a cardboard cut-out of Lee in one scene!).

And "Eacape Clause" has Curly (Thomas Gomez) from Key Largo one of my favorite movies of all time.
Sorry if I'm derailing the thread. Maybe I should have created a new one for TZ. I guess a moderator can if they see fit.

Lol at Clash of the Titans using a boa and/or python as a deterrent to Perseus grabbing his sword during the Cerebus battle.

For those of us who live in places that observe daylight savings time, we are on the cusp of time travelling one hour into the future! Ok, ok, so we are only setting our clocks ahead an hour and losing an hour of sleep, but the first way of saying it makes it actually sound appealing at least -M

Here in the Netherlands, we won't be setting our clocks forward for another 2 weeks.

Whenever we change the clocks either forward or back, you never really notice it until around 4 or 5pm.
