John Byrne occasionally brings up a scene in Peter David's Aquaman where he has a character fall out of a window, underwater. Anyone have a scan of this? I was just looking at Namor drinking out of a mug underwater in, I think, Priest's Black Panther, which has more than its share of boneheaded artist renditions. (Official answer to the buckskins politician in Enemy of the State 2: He's on his way to a costume party.) [science nerd]That could work actually, depending on density and miscibility of the liquid in the cup.[/science nerd off]

both! I'm assuming you've read both then? I read the entire Final Crisis, and wasn't a fan, but the "Superman-sings-and-fixes everything" was the final straw. And I don't want to give away any spoilers for the Titans Lost Annual, but it was the weirdest (and not in a good way) comic I've ever read.

From one of those Doctor Strange stories in Strange Tales, by Roy Thomas: "This water is cold--below freezing!" Umm... According to a guy I used to work with: Water freezes at -0 and thaws at +0 degrees. Now I know what was he reading.

Salt water's freezing point is below that of pure water, so it's possible to have liquid salt water below 0 degrees.

I really didn't have a problem with the Joker cutting his face off, then retrieving it and wearing his own face like a mask.
It was dumb, sure, I agree with that. But I love dumb stuff in the comics. Stuff like Bat-Mite, the Calendar Man, Platinum (from the Metal Men), the Bat-Ape, Lois Lane turning black, weird science explanations in Silver Age Flash, Atom, etc.
I admit Joker cutting off his face is a different kind of dumb. Now you know Joker is SERIOUS about being so crazy.
When fans of modern comics rant about how dumb old comics are, it's hard not to roll your eyes because of seriously dumb stuff in modern comics (Identity Crisis, Final Crisis, The Long Halloween, Hush) that fans of modern comics accept with a straight face and try to defend as not being dumb.
It's all pretty dumb, really.
Alles macht eine kleine Dummheit.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Joker cutting his own face off. and then wearing it. What exactly does "fangasmic" mean? And what does it feel like???

That was terrible! It was as bad the fight they just had in the last issue of Nightwing. The fight in Nightwing #30 was easily the worst moment of the whole series; and that series had a lot of bad moments. How the hell were they still conversing after both had been kicked/punched in the face and mouth 49 times?! Their speech balloons should have read something like - "Blluplld sskrdtst lkokrrspbl!!"

Immediately after the death of Supergirl following CRISIS, there's a Superman story where the hero chooses to tell Zor-El and Alura of their daughter's death by walking in on them, holding Supergirl's corpse decorously wrapped in his cape. The closing panel has a picture of the room's closed door, from which screams ("Yaahhh!") are resounding.
And to think this was probably prepared from a full-script!

Then there was the story which revealed that Supergirl, a couple of years before her death, had lost her memory in space, married some guy, then regained her memory but forgot about the husband and returned to Earth. Supposedly the story was done just because somebody at DC didn't want Supergirl to have died a virgin.

And, ona similar note, Rogue revealing that Sentry had taken her virginity (presumably so the writers could show how what a stud their Marty Stu was and how he could score with the one woman in the Marvel Universe no one else could).

How about the story where Superboy loses his virginity to the new girl in town, Misty? It turns out to be a test by his robot teacher from Krypton, who kidnapped a girl and imprinted her w/a false personality so Clark would fall for her. Then after they spent the night together, the robot teacher faked Misty's death, to see how Clark would react. He passed the test, of course, so the teacher revealed all and sent 'Misty' back to her own life, w/no memory of how she'd been used.
We seem to have a sub-theme running.
