Immediately after the death of Supergirl following CRISIS, there's a Superman story where the hero chooses to tell Zor-El and Alura of their daughter's death by walking in on them, holding Supergirl's corpse decorously wrapped in his cape. The closing panel has a picture of the room's closed door, from which screams ("Yaahhh!") are resounding. And to think this was probably prepared from a full-script! That almost doesn't sound real. I wish.

How about the story where Superboy loses his virginity to the new girl in town, Misty? It turns out to be a test by his robot teacher from Krypton, who kidnapped a girl and imprinted her w/a false personality so Clark would fall for her. Then after they spent the night together, the robot teacher faked Misty's death, to see how Clark would react. He passed the test, of course, so the teacher revealed all and sent 'Misty' back to her own life, w/no memory of how she'd been used. We seem to have a sub-theme running. I haven't read Superboy in almost 20 years, but this has me curious.

Wow, that is epic. And I even think that was published in Germany and I read it. But it's possible they censored it a bit.

Salt water's freezing point is below that of pure water, so it's possible to have liquid salt water below 0 degrees. I know, but this was rain water, from one of those ubiquitous Ditko water tanks.

I remember reading JLA 171,172 where the JSA and The League team up and Mr. Terrific is murdered while they are gathering. Well, They find out at the end of the two parter that the Shadow King took over The Earth 2 Flash and committed the murder. The dumb part is that he escapes and the heroes shrug their shoulders and say " oh well, we'll get him later. The important part is that we used fair play to find out who was the killer". Huh ?

That story was later resolved in John Ostrander's Spectre series (issues 53-54, I think, or possible 54-55) when Michael Holt was introduced. It was a great story, and one of Ostrander's best retcons.

Yeah, they had a different cover artist for nearly every issue. Top illustrators, too. It lead to some very interesting covers.

Or send him to the Phantom Zone. Or strand him in the prehistoric past. Or get him into space, at least minimizing the colateral damage. Or any of the many strategies he'd used against powerful foes in the past. To be fair, this is 90's Superman. While he had the fortress and some access to the phantom zone, we hadn't seen a portable phantom zone projector yet, he couldn't time travel under his own power and he did try to carry Doomsday into space in earlier issues but couldn't hold him (at 1 point Doomsday practically gutted him in mid-air).

I was annoyed by that bit where Doomsday beats him up mid-air because Doomsday couldn't fly so Superman could approach him from just about any angle without Doomsday being able to defend him. Also trying to punch somebody in freefall is pretty much useless.
