I have never really read ANYTHING Superman or Superboy related (not... really) before, and I'm guessing this shouldn't be my first? Because: WTF. Seriously, wtf.

I'm sure I've seen a post of a silver age Wonder Woman comic in which a gun taken back through time could not be fired simply because it now existed in a period before it was invented. No idea how someone could write that and think "that looks fine".

Though I'd be hard pressed to name a Superboy story I could recommend for your first. Sad thing about that story - not only did nobody involved seem to notice or care that a character was essentially raped, but the fans didn't care either. Three years later, the Ms. Marvel story in Avengers 200 at least sparked some outrage. The only reaction I remember to the Superboy story was some fans snickering over Clark Kent getting laid.

Rick Jones MomentThe Set-Up: The plot of the first Avengers issue called for Loki to make the Hulk look like a public menace by using some trickery to make it appear like he was going on a destructive rampage that could kill countless civilians. In fact, the Hulk was on a destructive rampage that, as usual, was somehow incapable of hurting anyone. Once the Hulk’s dopey sidekick Rick Jones hears about this, he decides someone needs to get some other superheroes on the case… with the power of ham radio! Yes, Rick Jones really did have a nationwide network of teenagers with attitude and radio transmitters who were, apparently, able to instantly contact everyone from the government to the goddamn Fantastic Four in the name of the Hulk. Such is the power of ham radio! Their modern equivalent would be Rick Jones’s livejournal list, I guess, with the power to send IMs to the superheroes and government agencies of their choice via their stupid iPhones.

Dumbest and the Saddest Avengers Moment of all timeThe Juggling Robot Clown, Avengers #1 (1963)The Set-Up: In many ways, the first issue of the Avengers was by far the worst. Beyond Loki’s involvement as mentioned above, basically nothing happens in the issue besides a big ridiculous brawl with the Hulk, and a bit where Thor wanders off to fight Loki in one of the more psychedelic parts of Asgard. Now, just how ridiculous did that big fight with the Hulk get? This ridiculous: Thanks, Stan.

Can you imagine the Hulk applying his makeup for this big top extravaganza ?

Nah, he was just flying through the air minding his own business when Loki tricked him into changing his direction while still in the air and appearing to attack some train tracks.

If it was a choice between erasing this panel from history or the next 600+ issues, I'd have to think long and hard. It's the Hulk, pretending to be a robot, dressed as a clown, juggling elephants - and instead of laboriously focusing on the backstory and how he got their and why, Kirby + Lee just throw it in like it ain't no thing.

Dear Everyone,
I just can't not believe the attention of this dumbest moment in the AVENGERS comic book and I tried my best to share the ridiculous moment in this book; however I'm speechless of the notion that everyone here thinks it is the best moment and just stating my own opinion here and I tried my best to be rational as possible. I'm totally loss in words that I do not understand the JOY of this moment. To me, seeing THE HULK as MECHANO and dressed like a clown is all about being very silly in the world of comics. I see this picture being pretty much dumb and sad at the same time but you guys see it totally different and I just don't get it period.
For that alone, I having not able to figure out what this moment is so special to you guys is remains a mystery to me because I see this picture as SILLY as you can possibly see.
But, knowing everyone that see it differently than you do ... I have to take a step back and retract everything that I said and leave it alone. I'm totally speechless and therefore just can't figure out what all this really means and I do fully understand your comments and thoughts - but I'm truly sorry about all this.
So, having said that ... I'm pulling this picture out of the door and leave it as one of the best moments of AVENGERS history - bar none.
That's all I have to say.

I don't know. I'm not a rabid Avengers fan, but I have to say that the panel with the Hulk juggling elephants has always struck me as a bit poignant in a Hunchback of Notre Dame kind of way: the monster exploited.
I would never eliminate this panel from Marvel history were the chance offered.
Especially if we could eliminate the Norman Osborne-Gwen Stacy "romance."

Mate dont take this the wrong way, but look at your avatar. You obviously love that stuff, yet to many others it is the epitome of trash movies. Same deal here, one mans rubbish is anothers treasure. Hey I like Frank Robbins, big Dan B. loathes him. Que sera sera. This picture reminds me of the 70s house add for a Hulk tee-shirt where hes pulling a little childs trolley. Still want one.
