I got this today! The Kamandi Challenge Special! It reprints a couple of issues of Kirby Kamandi, and also features the uncolored art for the never-published Kamandi #60 and #61! I can hardly wait to read it! Unfortunately, I'm pretty busy for the next few hours and won't be able to get to it. I also got Kong of Skull Island #7, Black Widow #10, Cave Carson #4 and Batman #14 and #15. (I don't usually buy Batman, but the Catwoman has been appearing lately and I have to read that!

Story, Art and Cover by Francis Manapul. Poison Ivy reveals to Lois that she "discovered" a child called White Mercy thru The Green in her dreams. She wants to pull her thru to our world from the Dreamworld. On the Kent farm she has sensed something that stores enough solar energy to allow her to do this. Meanwhile in the Dreamworld the 3 heroes battle Mongul. This arc has been yet another padded story. It was a decent story but would have been better told in 4 issues instead of 6. We get Manapul back on art but it isn't his best work. I will buy the conclusion next issue. But with the inconsistency of this title & the upcoming price increase in 2 months I am going to drop it after #6. Score: 6/10.

Written by Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason. Art by Ed Benes, Ryan Sook, Jorge Jimenez and Clay Mann. Cover by Ryan Sook. 'MULTIPLICITY' (2 of 3). Various heroes from across the multiverse gather in the Hall of Heroes in the Bleed. After fighting on several Earths they decide the only way to win is to lose. So our Superman lets himself be captured. After the strong opening last issue this suffers from being the middle act. I suspect the conclusion next issue will be great. I also think this arc is a setup for the upcoming Superman crossover in April. The art was great despite having 4 different artists on this book. Score: 7/10.

Written by Mark Waid. Art and Cover by Joe Eisma. Dilton creates an app similar to yelp. However Reggie uses it to wreak havoc thru out Riverdale. Moose sticks up for Dilton & threatens Reggie with bodily harm. And everything is right again in Riverdale...except Cheryl Blossom arrives. She is there several weeks before Veronica will return. Cheryl sets into motion her plan to get even with Veronica. Yet another great issue in the New Riverdale. So much happened in this issue. Dilton vs Reggie vs Moose. A new dynamic with Cheryl Blossom in town. Ironically Archie really was only in a few panels in his own book as the spotlight was on the rest of Riverdale. Score: 9/10.

Written by Tim Seeley. Art and Cover by Marcus To. The Run Offs abandon Nightwing who fights the killer. He unmasks him...it is Jimmy Nice, the city's budget analyst & board member of Haven Community Center. Nice attacks the mayor & gets away leaving the police to think that Nightwing is responsible for the attack. Nightwing escapes only to be caught later. Returning to Bludhaven has really helped this title. Plus To's beautiful art has made this book one of my favorites. Look at the cover by To! Score: 9/10.

My favorite of the week:The Deluge: Finale. Written by Dan Abnett. Art by Philippe Briones and Wayne Faucher. Cover by Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessy. Aquaman fights NEMO & Black Manta. Manta blows up the ship rather than be captured. Aquaman & Superman go to the White House & confront the President. Arthur demands he be treated as a King. He accuses the President of ordering assassination attempt on Aquaman by the Aquamarines. He then states he will no longer fight the USA. If they continue the USA will be the bad guys in the eyes of the world. Then Arthur & the President go on TV to announce the end of the war between Atlantis & USA. And that a terrorist group caused it. Superman admires Aquaman's strong resolve. Mera is amazed at how Arthur stopped the war. This issue shows why Aquaman is NOT a joke. It also shows his unique qualities in a universe populated with super powered beings. He demands respect & gets it with his quiet show of strength. With this issue Abnett shows he "gets" Aquaman & deserves respect himself as one of the best Aquaman writers! I also thought Faucher's inks made Brione's pencils look even better. Score: 10/10.

I got US Avengers, Captain Marvel, Descender and Sunstone (they didn't have Curse Words, so I might wait and see on that title). Also got the Image Humble Bundle that came out today, so I'll be busy reading for the next few weeks.

I picked up Batman #14 and #15 and, while its nowhere near the best Catwoman story I've ever read, it's not the cringeworthy mess I'm finding Detective Comics to be, in general.
The advertising for #16 indicates Catwoman is going to be around for a while. But also, Bane is the bad guy. I liked Bane at first, but he got less and less interesting as Knightfall went along and I found him barely tolerable by the end. I haven't liked Bane since. So I'm torn about continuing with Batman.
The Kamandi reprints are great! #61 seems to be mostly an inventory story from Kirby's Sandman series that wasn't published after the series was cancelled. But they have packaged it with a framing sequence where Kamandi meets the Sandman! It's pretty trippy! The next time I see a "Best Christmas Story" for comic books, I'll put it forward as a candidate.

Archie #16: my store usually sells out of Archie. I'm currently enjoying Josie and The Pussycats, Reggie and Me, and Betty and Veronica. Since my store had 1 copy of Archie left, I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. As stated in the previous review, Dilton creates an app that allows the students at Riverdale High to rate anything and anybody. Of course Reggie causes trouble with the app and Cheryl Blossom arrives at school. I loved this story! It was so current yet classic Archie. There's a panel with the kids all walking around and there are however many stars they've been rated above their heads. Kids all on their phones snapping away and posting on the app as well. I got so into the story, I didn't even notice Archie's brief appearance in his own book. The art was crisp and sharp. Very fitting for a teen centered book. As I was checking out today, I told the owner I hadn't read so many Archie titles since I was a kid. He replied that Archie and friends are popular at the store, which makes this longtime fan very happy. 10/10

In order my favorites: Jughead (hands down is the best IMO). Reggie & Me (this surprised me how much I have been enjoying it!). Archie (really loving the intro of Cheryl). Betty & Veronica (the looong delays are killing this book). I don't read Josie.

I've been wanting to check out Jughead, but it always sells out. I may try to get tpb and get caught up. I noticed Reggie is on the cover of the last issue. I'm the oddball whose favorite Archie character is Reggie, haha!

I'm the oddball whose favorite Archie character is Reggie, haha! #1-6 is by Chip Zdarsky & Erica Henderson. It involves Mr Weatherbee forced into early retirement & his replacement Principal Stanger. Jughead finds a way to get Mr Weatherbee back. #7 & 8 is by Chip Zdarsky & Derek Charm. It's summer in Riverdale. This one features Jughead, Archie, Reggie & Mr Weatherbee. #9-11 is by Ryan North & Derek Charm. It introduces Sabrina. Jughead goes on a date with her which ends in disaster. Why does Jughead go on a date since he really could care less about girls? Hint: it involves burgers. So Sabrina puts a curse on Jughead. Part of the curse she puts on Jughead? He becomes friends with Reggie (they bond over their dogs Vader & Hot Dog!). #12 & 13 is by North & Charm. Continues with Reggie hanging out with Jughead & the results on the rest of the Archie gang. If you like Reggie I think you would like this book more than Archie. It became my favorite when North started writing.

I don't want to give the idea that the Catwoman story in Batman #14 and #15 isn't pretty dumb. It's just not dumb in a way that bothers me very much.
Batman #14 has a segment that's fairly interesting if you're just looking at the art and the layout. It's a four-page sequence where Catwoman is running around with Batman as he goes about his nightly rounds. And on this single night, Batman and Catwoman beat up on Magpie, Signal Man, Gorilla Boss, the Ten-Eyed Man, the Werewolf, Copperhead, Amygdala, King Snake, Condiment King (I'm assuming this guy was thrown in a weird joke about third-rate villains), the Cavalier, Zebra Man, Film Freak, the Mad Monk and Kite Man.
A lot of the panels alternate with a panel of the Bat-Signal alerting Batman to a new threat.
It looks nice. But from a story standpoint, it's pretty weak. A single evening where Batman takes on over a dozen villains in separate incidents - that's the story! How in the world was there time for Batman to find out about each crime, then respond and beat them up?
And it makes the Batman in Knightfall look like a weakling.
(Not to mention how much I dislike the way modern writers just pluck interesting characters from the past, treat them like jokes and turn them into throwaway villains. It's such lazy writing. It's true that some of these guys seem irredeemable to me, but some of them have potential. I love Gorilla Boss, for example. He should be a major player in the Gotham City underworld. The other mob bosses make fun of him until he's sitting on your chest and tearing your throat out. And the villains that seem to be utterly useless to me might be a favorite lame villain to someone else. And let's not forget, just because some of these guys are obscure, it doesn't mean they aren't powerful and dangerous. Batman wouldn't be taking out Amygdala, the Werewolf and the Mad Monk all in the same night!)
I'm hoping that it's supposed to be symbolic, that Batman and Catwoman fought several menaces, but that they are so interchangeable that it doesn't particularly matter which C-Team villains were involved.
There's some other dumb stuff in this two-part story. Like the big revelation of who really killed the 237 people that Catwoman has been accused of murdering. But it's just regular, dumb comic-book stuff and doesn't bother me near as much as some of the recent stories in Detective Comics (though I did like the latest issue) and the dialogue in Squadron Supreme.
