Not a bad cover in the bunch, but one of the reasons I didn't pick one from the original Swamp Thing run (I was enamored of two in particular) is that I hate the "trade dress" on DC books from that era. Way too big and left artists that squarish box as the only space to use. Thank Cthulhu that they had a great logo for Swamp Thing then. They could have used this one, which really captures the feel of the character: (NOT AN ENTRY... MAY NOT EVEN BE CONSIDERED ART!)While I tend to agree with you about the DC trade dress (EC had a similar issue, exacerbated by excessive cover copy), It really did serve the purpose of making sure you could see the logo when you were flipping through books stuffed in spinner racks and on multilevel newsstands.

Thought I would pick something from one of the DC horror anthology series like House of Secrets but found I couldn't resist choosing this one out of nostalgia, as it was a favourite of mine as a youngster. I haven't clicked "like" for anything on this thread because I would have to "like" nearly all of them! This and the alien visitor issue are my two favorite actual stories of the Wein/Wrightson ST. But the Batman cover Crimebuster posted is my favorite of the issue covers.

Hey, the Neal Adams horror story kids are back! Those kids sure got in a crapload of trouble, how did they ever survive from one cover to the next? And where's the dog? I assume the tree already ate it. these tykes must go through more dogs...

Agreed. I'm guessing that's why Marvel had those "matted" covers in the early 70s, too.

I think they kept getting killed somewhere between the cover and the interior stories.

I think they kept getting killed somewhere between the cover and the interior stories. It was a lethal combination of GRIT and Dynamic Tension that did them in.

As cool as they are I didnt want to use another Swamp-Thing cover or a House of Mystery type either. Then I was excited to see an Astonishing Tales Deathlok cover by him...but its inks only ...and then there was the team-up book with Spidey and Swampy...so thats a fake ...and then the book with a title I cant believe is real, Kong the Untamed, that has to be so bad its good, right...

The werewolf issue - first ST I read when the series was on the stands - is probably my other favourite, but I agree the cover to the Batman issue is better. I remember also being fascinated by the splash page (I mean the 1st page, the title page) of ST #6 - it showed Matt Cable's desk with a digital clock-radio kind of thing and a bunch of files and newspaper clippings, etc about the Swamp Thing. Not sure why it held my interest so much, but probably had something to do with my early fascination with spy shows and things like that.

Maybe, but that ain't one of them. Phillip Garris. You know, after I posted it and saw it full size, I did notice that signage on the bottom. And yet, multiple website's including Wikipedia and a Wrightson-dedicated site attributed it to him. Which goes to show that on the internet, if someone makes a mistake it can get snowballed by people blindly copying it. Thanks for pointing it out
