I was thinking tonight about how rare it is that Chris Claremont got to stick with the X-Men for 15 uninterrupted years and was wondering if any other creator had that kind of tenure on a book they didn't own. I know Bob Kane signed his name to roughly twenty years worth of Batman comics, but he wasn't the one actually doing the work on most of those.

Curt Swan was doing Superman family books for over 25 years
When comparing longevity and un-interuptions, I think you need to separate writers from artists since the workload is so different

Well there is Mr. Sure and Steady himself, Dick Dillin, who pencilled Blackhawk from issue #64 (cover dated May 1953) until issue 241 (cover dated June-July 1968), then the next month started on Justice League of America with issue 64 (cover dated Aug 1968-though he had done 3-4 issues the year before as fill ins and/or try outs) and then pencilled the book until his death, with his last issue being #183 cover dated Oct 1980.
so 15 years on Blackhawk followed by 12 on JLA
and then there is Kanigher/Kubert on Sgt. Rock in Our Army at War/Sgt. Rock. I haven't even looked into that run's length

How about artist Jesse Marsh, the first artist for Dell's Tarzan comics with original art starting in 1947. He stayed with it until 1965 when his health began to fail and Russ Manning took over
Or Warren Kremer who created Richie Rich in 1953 and got his own title in 1960. Kremer stayed with Richie Rich until 1982 when it was temporarily suspended and he moved over to help start Marvel's Star Line of children's comics

Joe Certa was the only artist on the Martian Manhunter's strip from 1955 till 1968.
Infantino had a nine-year-run on the Flash.
Sheldon Mayer on Sugar and Spike: 15 years drawing and writing.

Roy Thomas wrote the Conan book for 10 years and Big John Buscema drew the barbarian for 14 years. (And continued on other projects like SSC)

Thomas and Buscema had that great, long run on the Conan books.
Garth Ennis wrote the Punisher for 9 years between the Marvel Knights series and the MAX run.

H.G. Peter drew Wonder Woman for 17 years, 1941-1958
The unbelievable thing about that was: He was 61 years old when he started

Dillin did not do any fill-ins on Justice League prior to #64. All previous issues, including the Brave and Bold issues, were penciled by Mike Sekowsky. He did, however, draw the JLA when they guest starred in a few issues of Blackhawk during their brief, unfortunate super-hero phase, so I guess you could consider that a tryout. Cei-U! I summon Mr. Dependable!

I know this doesn't qualify as the longest run. But John Byrne's 61 issues on the FF is still pretty impressive and for the most part consistently good.

Speaking of Buscema, his brother Sal, drew the Hulk for over 100 issues.
