Okay, I've yet to see this and am torn between watching the standard release or the Once Upon a Deadpool release, which cuts down the violence to PG-13 but inserts a framing sequence with Deadpool reading to an adult Fred Savage ala The Princess Bride. Has anyone seen both? Recommendations on which to watch? Or do I really need to watch both? Can't recommend a version over another, but unless you watch it with a very young kid, I'd say the violence is so extremely cartoony as to be completely inoffensive. (There is, however, a LOT of it... and of course a lot of *ahem* inappropriate jokes.) Oh, I dont really mind the violence. I want the added scenes from the PG-13 version and worry I'll be missing good stuff from the original release.

I have seen both and was happier with "Once Upon a Deadpool" because (1) the 'edgy R rated vulgarity' improvised on the set has little appeal to me, and (2) The Princess Bride-related material was great.

Saw it, wasn't very impressed. For me, same problem as GotG2 - they saw what worked in the first one and tried to amp it all up in this one, and it felt forced, and not very funny. I'll give it another go when the DVD is out FWIW, I've seen it a couple of time since, and I largely feel the same way, though it's improved a bit in re-watching. Still hate the firestarter kid, though

It was really missing something, I'm not quite sure what though

Still hate the firestarter kid, though They captured lightning in a bottle with the first one. Second had a lot going for it, don't know why it turned out as poorly as it did. It was really missing something, I'm not quite sure what though You really thought so? I might have to watch the first one again, but offhand I thought the second was funnier. Instead of an adventure film with lots of jokes in it, it was parodying the whole super-hero film industry. I loved how all the setting-up for X-Force turned out, complete wirth references to having a young enough cast to start a franchise... That wasn't just playing with the characters and breaking the fourth wall, but also playing with the audience's expectations. I think that's why I liked the second one. It was somewhat more subversive than the first.
