Apologies to everyone for the tardiness of this contest. I know alot of us are keen on this thread, myself included. And of course thanks for the votes on the bowling theme. The dude does abide, but ole benday is usually nocturnal in his appearances so special thanks to our fine host MRP for the heads up.
This weeks theme: Things Shattering Apart.
Here I have in mind covers which show a clear image of shattering, fragmentation or disintegration. I was going to just confine the field to glass, windows, crystal and the like ending up in shards, but then I thought why not anything shown in a like state. If most prefer the narrow view let me know and I'm good with it. We already had explosions, so the key in my mind is to focus on something shown in fragments and not just a mess of fire and blow-up.
[copying and pasting of rules below]
Post one, and only one, classic cover that fits the theme of the contest.
-Cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume published before Jan 1 2004 (this is a classics comic forum and we voted 10 years as the unofficial standard for being a classic).
-Covers must be posted before voting begins. -Voting runs from 12 AM PST Tuesday until 12 AM Wednesday PST. -Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most -Put the name in bold. -The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends. -The winner chooses the theme for the next week's contest.
-If you don't think the cover fits the theme, don't vote for it, don't post disparaging remarks about it. If a cover is more recent that the Classic time frame, kindly point it out and the poster can choose an alternate before voting begins. -Have fun!

I take it this is intended as a shattering of the spine? Sure, why not.

One of my all-time favorite covers. Good category. Many good possibilities...
