shaxper is currently reviewing the Avengers in the Bronze age and had issue with a dead Iron Man being brought back to life. In this hobby, many characters have died just to be brought back. In your opinion, which had the best and worst resurrection story? I'll start by saying the way Wonderman was brought back many years later was pretty good. Apparently the Ionic energy that gave him his powers keep his body in a state of being where he wasn't really dead.

Buddy Baker Animal Man would probably be at the top of my best list. He loses his human body and his consciousness goes on this sort of journey through the animal kingdom until he's eventually resurrected as something else entirely.

Worst...Lots of them. Phoenix irritated me the most though.
Best...Swamp Thing in The Anatomy Lesson.

The resurrection of Adam Warlock , Gamora and Pip from the soul Gem was brilliant.

It's it terrible that I thought Phoenix was pretty good? I mean, the character is called PHOENIX, whose main characteristic is it comes back to life.. where people really upset/suprised/shocked?
I think any Marvel one in the last 10 years could qualify as 'worst'.. they don't even bother explaining most of the time anymore.
I think Colossus is the 'classic' one that I got most annoyed by... he made an awesome, emotional, heroic sacrifice. They go through the trouble of showing us his ashes being scattered. Then, just 2 years leter he's back because friggin' Joss Wheadon likes him and Kitty as a couple or something.

Winter Soldier, hands down for me, Bru and co did the undoable ... and it was good.
Umm as much as the first Warlock comebackky thing was cool, its kind of lost its coolyness by being repeated half a dozen times or 2 over the last 20 years...just sayin' man

Magneto's Resurrection, post-Morrison, was a mess.
Ra's Al Ghul had a good resurrection. That is, the story that led up to it was good.
These days some characters are resurrected without any explanation given. It's happened with Unus the Untouchable twice now.

I don't think we can count Bucky's return as a resurrection. We never saw the body, only that Cap believed him to be dead based on the events. The return to active continuity was done masterfully by Brubaker, but not a resurrection in the strictest sense, IMO.
As for worst, agree on Colossus. His sacrifice, in memory of his sister's death (hey, another poorly-done resurrection in its own right), was everything one could ask of a hero, but then he's back a few years later, even though he was cremated? Yeah, not so much.

The return to active continuity was done masterfully by Brubaker, but not a resurrection in the strictest sense, IMO. Except that in Avengers #56, the time-traveling assemblers SAW Bucky die (although the death occurred off-camera). When Hawkeye suggests Bucky could've somehow survived the explosion, Cap replies "Bucky could only have been killed... instantly! I know that now... without a doubt!" A bit later, he thinks "Now... for the first time... I can be sure he's gone... forever!" To be fair, I've never read any of Brubaker's stuff so maybe he did find a clever way around that issue's finality, but it's clear Roy Thomas (and implicitly EIC Stan Lee) meant for Bucky not only to be "merely dead, but really most sincerely dead." Cei-U! I summon the niggling details!

Worst: Jason Todd. Retcon Punch and all.
Best: Jason Todd in the animated Batman: Under The Hood. It actually made sense!

I recently read Rebirth: Red Hood and the Outlaws, and they are now treating the movie version as canon. I'm glad that they are, because you are right. It is much better than the ridiculous Infinite Crisis punch version.

The reasoning being that Under the Red Hood had always been Judd Winnick's plan for how to bring Jason Todd back and what to do with him after. Dan Didio got in the way with the comic, but the film gave him a chance to finally do the story as intended.
