I am hoping to see it on Tuesday. I am fine with the fact that Spidey is coming after the others and I really like the storyline the MCU has set up. It is its own thing and I can appreciate that because you have to be original to make your own mark on something as classic as Spidey. I will chime in hopefully later this week. Cant wait to see it.

Saw it today. Still digesting it. Lots of nice easter eggs for long-time fans. Overall, I was really happy with it.
The biggest downer for me was the reveal in re Adrian Toomes family. Bleh! I could have happily done without that.

Overall a real fun and entertaining movie. Captures many of the good things about our boy Spidey. Liked the Keaton Vulture concept. Now if he downsizes the wings into a more portable version he could become a really maneuverable villain of the skies. There were some plot flaws as any movie has (why would Stark allow all of his important toys being moved without protection, too short a set up with Pete/Liz crushing or dating) and also managed to update all of the Spidey school kids nicely without resorting to stereotypes.
Keaton as the working man's villain was superb. Loved the bomber jacket/helmet motif. Maybe a touch too bloodthirsty/psychotic at moments but can see where he will make a grand recurring master villain. Nice in world set up's connecting and showing the "small" world concept where everyone knows everyone in some way when you live/work within a city. I have had several jobs and find it amazing that in each one I have managed to run across friends/family/school and many times seeing them in all 3. This works well in the Spidey-verse of villainy IMO. Spidey in the 'burbs was hilariously well done.
Looking forward to more Spidey....

I'd guess were more likely to see the Vulture as a reformed ally or a victim of blackmail than a recurring master villain. In the mid-credits scene, Toomes seemed to be keeping Peter's secret despite pressure from Mac Gargan. Toomes seems to have a sense of honor, or at least indebtedness, toward Spider-Man.

There were a lot of ways to read that. Perhaps he gained a sense of honor. But it's also possible he wants the secret for himself for his own purposes.

It was a good movie. There were somethings I liked and somethings I didn't.
What worked:
1. I liked the look of the suit. As in Civil War I liked how the eyes were animated on the mask. Reminds me of the animation in the old 1967 Spiderman cartoon.
2. I'm glad they didn't do the origin story again. That would have been boring after seeing both the McGuire & Garfield Spidey films.
3. Was glad to see the Vulture & Michael Keaton. He did a great job!
4. Liz as Peter's love interest. It was a nice change. I'm guessing since they already showed him with MJ & Gwen in the previous films, they wanted something different.
What didn't work:
1. Too much Tony Stark. I like Tony and I don't mind him mentoring Peter, but it bothered me that he had to save Peter twice in the film. Makes Spidey look weak.
2. Okay I know I said I liked the suit and I do, but as a few people already said, I would have liked it if Pete made the suit himself. The one he had before Stark gave him one in Civil War is pitiful and I hated that he had to go back to that after Stark took the new one back. I would have like to see Peter get mad and make his own new suit as sort of a crew you to Tony. LOL
3. I'm not crazy about Peter being 15. I'm use to Spidey being at least 17 or 18. I did laugh when the thug told Spiderman sounded like a girl but come on! I am hoping for the next Spidey film we see him a little older and a bit more confident in using his powers.

I saw the film tonight with some friends and I echo robsuperfriend63 statements about it was too much Tony Stark and I wished the Vulture was totally different and I just don't care for it. Keaton on the other hand did a great job acting - but the suit brought it down. I like Liz very well and Tom Holland did an admirable job as Spiderman. It was a decent film - but I still prefer Tobey's version better and Tom is an improvement over Andrew. I agree with Rob, that he is too young for being Spidey ... Spidey at 15 is way too young and I just have a hard time dealing with it. Great Action Scenes and I just give it a B for it's efforts and another thing that I just don't like is the fact that this movie has a large cast and I wished they cut down the numbers of actors and I just don't know who ...

I agree Tobey's Spidey is still the best. Andrew was good and I have to admit his look as Peter Parker was more spot on to the comic's then Tobey's. However, Andrew's Spidey suit in his first film I did not care for. The costume for ASM 2 was much better. I'm still not sure how I feel about Tom but I hope by the next film they make Peter a little older.

I love Peter being 15. He was 15 or thereabouts when the comic book started. Him being a high school student and being young was an integral part of the early Spider-man. It also serves to set him apart from the rest of the MCU.

Some of my opinions are similar to others on here...here were my likes and dislikes
Likes
1. The story. I agree that bypassing an origin tale was a good idea. It tied in nicely with Spider-Man's appearance in Civil War and the MCU is doing their own "original" story of how Spidey came to be and I like it. I liked how they also tied Vulture's story in to the original Avengers film. His background story was nicely thought out and I actually liked the "twist" towards the end.
2. Tom Holland and Michael Keaton. Both were excellent. I liked the supporting class as well and I appreciate the diversity in switching up the backgrounds of certain characters. Having Pete in high school also worked very well for me.
3. The suit. Visually, the best looking suit yet.
4. The humour. Spidey cracked jokes just like he does in the books. Plus, with his awkwardness, it worked perfectly.
5. References. I picked up on the nod to #33 and also issue #267 (where he is stuck in the suburbs). Were there others that I missed, specifically certain issues?
Dislikes
1. The suit. Too much tech. I think I would have been nice if Pete maybe asked Stark (after refusing his admission to the Avengers) for Stark to design him a suit that was a little more low tech. I don't know if I can get used to him talking to Karen in future movies.
2. The final fight. Much too brief. It seemed like we did not get a great battle sequence. Spidey was always having to be preoccupied with something else. Not that it was a bad thing but I wanted a good ole fashion battle sequence.\
3. Too much Tony....although I don't think this will be an issue in future Spidey films. again, Marvel is doing their own original-ish take on Spidey's birth in the MCU and it makes sense to have a mentor for this film. Hopefully though, the second film is more him on his own, doing his thing in NYC while the Avengers handle the more alien emergencies.
Overall, a solid Spidey film. To me though, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 will always rank #2 and #1 respectively. Superb cast, strong plot and still very watchable (although Green Goblins costume still bugs me). The Garfield Spideys were okay but nothing blew me away. There were no moments that felt special and I cannot even recall the general plot for either one. These MCU movies all seem to have a strong formula and sure, it may be simple but it is working. They take the time to have those little moments that feel right (stopping the day after the deli is destroyed to really see and comprehend what happened or seeing Pete stop for a sandwich and pet a cat). This origin also has tons of room for growth, with (fingers crossed) some iteration of the Sinister Six happening in the future. Plus, with Miles Morales' uncle (who is also the Prowler) in the story, I hope we get to see him alongside Spidey at some point...perhaps as a villain at first that eventually helps Spidey in some way.

I watched this on Tuesday for the 3rd time. And on Sunday I watched Spider-Man 2 for the jillionth time. I'm not sure which is better. They're now my two favorite superhero films.
They have some similar story beats. The sequence where he's done being Spider-Man and his life turns around in Homecoming is pretty similar to Spider-Man 2, right down to the hand raising in the classroom. Homecoming has better production value and feels a bit more real. They look like real kids in a real school, where Raimi's made everything seem a little more staged. There is a charm to Raimi's in just how much personality he imbues into the cameo characters. A guy shows up for a moment to make a single joke, but somehow feels like a major character in Raimi's.
Both great villains. Two of the best.
The worst part of Spider-Man 2 is the "romance". From the writing to the acting, I've never seen two people look less like they want to bone than those two. Homecoming worked better. They didn't look in love, but they looked like awkard teenagers happy to go to a dance together, so it worked. Generally, I have found Homecoming the more seamless of the two, though I've had less time to find the seams.
One of these two is definitely the best superhero movie ever, in my mind.

Just saw the movie. I liked Keaton and Holland. Like everyone else i was less than excited about Stark and the Stark suit. Guess because i was raised on a Peter Parker that made his own suit and webshooters i didnt feel the whole super tech outfit. Im really hoping that Spiderman gets to go solo soon. Maybe after Infinity Gauntlet Iron man has died and Peter has to learn how to be Spiderman without all the tech. I'd be cool with that. And im hoping for a crazy ass Mac Gargan in full Scorpion garb. I think Mr Mando can pull off a quiet kind of crazy

Finally saw it tonight. Really liked it. Probably my fave Spiderman movie. I expect great things from Holland going forward. He showed some serious skills in many scenes. Keaton was great but a little inconsistent in parts. Not complaining though. I loved the character performance and design. Like many I could've done without him basically being iron man jr. but it worked. I was a tad put off by how unpleasant happy and tony came accross towards peter. Something just didn't feel right about their performances. Supporting cast was fine except for Flash and MJ. Would've preferred they be a bit more traditional. The "hot aunt may" stuff wasn't necessary and wore out quick but no biggie. One thing that just really still has me scratching my head was the timeline. Still doesn't make sense to me. Basically the avengers would've / should've already been in their new HQ well before homecoming. All in all a great movie and welcome addition to the mcu. Can't wait for more.
