Let us pay tribute to the fine feathered flyers of the sky. Who are your picks for favorite hero or villain of the skyways? Pick 3 and explain.
For me: 1. Hawkman. Katar Hol/Carter Hall or whatever version you can think of (and boy are there lots of choices to choose from) is the premiere winged warrior for me. Reincarnation, Egyptian mythology, science fiction, police officer and the whole convoluted muddy mess that he is and yet there is something special about him that whatever version comes around I will pick up and read to see what they do with him.
2. Birdman. Grew up watching Birdman with his partner Avenger. Great to see the renewed interest with the Harvey Birdman show and his more recent adventure in the DC Hanna-Barbera Quest putting him up alongside Space Ghost was spectacular.
3. Falcon. I have loved Falcon ever since his appearing in green and soaring the skyline with his grappling hook. Once Marvel revamped into the white and red 70's with glider wings provided by the Black Panther and Sam Wilson became a full partner with Cap he became even cooler. With upgrades to his wings being energy based for awhile and then changes to the more military styling following the MU movies and his becoming Captain America himself there has always been a coolness to Falc.
Honorable mention to the Silverhawks cartoon of cyborg space soaring fighters!

I'd go with Falcon, then Hawkman, then Angel. Hawkman's tough because he's changed so much, I don't know which guy I'm voting for.

Hawkman & Hawkwoman.
I always preferred Carter Hall over Katar Hol. I liked the reincarnation & Egyptian mythology aspect over the science fiction alien police officer version. I also like that he was part of a couple with Hawkwoman.
Falcon.
I loved it when he became Capt America's partner & a hero on his own.

My Top Three1. Hawkman ... brutalis explanations - he described him perfectly. 2. Darkhawk ... Christopher Powell is the coolest Superhero and a favorite of mine in the Silver Age having an unique set of powers that it's so cool that I just can't get enough of him. I loved his costume! Powers and Abilities of Darkhawk 3. Silverhawks ... I dig the cartoon, the book from Marvel, and one of the my bright spots in the 80's. They got a bad villain by the name of Mon*Star his transformation is so cool and scary at the time.

Big Hawkman fan anxious to see if Dark Metal can do for Carter what the New52 did for Arthur. I've hardly seen him, but I like the back story of the latest incarnation of the Freedom Fighters' Black Condor Courtesy of DC.Wikia.com John Trujillo, alias Black Condor is the third hero to take up the mantle. John is a Navajo who was given wind and earth powers by the Spider Woman. He has joined Uncle Sam's Freedom Fighters to protect America. He first appears when he single-handedly rescues Uncle Sam and the other Freedom Fighters who had been defeated by agents of S.H.A.D.E.. Trujillo is very serious and seems somewhat uncomfortable interacting with other people. Divine Empowerment: John was given the hereditary powers of the Black Condor by the Spider Woman, a Native American sky goddess. Flight: Tocatl gave Black Condor black feathery wings, which sprout from his shoulders. With them, he has the ability to fly at great speeds Aerokinesis: He also has the ability to manipulate the wind. He can create large blasts of air that can cover city blocks. He can spin the winds into a whirlwind, knocking out creatures with concussive force. Superhuman Strength: Black Condor also draws strength from the Earth, giving him superhuman strength, agility, and a higher resilience to pain. Superhuman Speed: Black Condor was my Other Vote candidate, and I voted for Dawnstar as well.

I wonder why they haven't brought them back.

My three votes went to
1. Hawkman, particularly the Golden Age version. I just really dig that version, plus it's easier to believe in a man flying with a pair of mechanical wings than a man with real wings growing out of his back without the major anatomical distortions required to make them functional.
2.Sauron, because he just looks so darned cool.
3. Other, specifically Man-Bat, Neal Adams' other classic winged villain.
Cei-U! Wheet! Wheet!

Me too, Jesse and I'm really puzzled why and I just dig them ... I got the DVD's of this series along with the ThunderCats too. There was a Mon Star cameo in an episode the 2011 Thundercats during a flashback. I wonder if that show was more successful could we have seen a SilverHawks reboot.

Silverhawks was surprisingly watchable. I was an adult and found that I could sit through it and Thundercats far more easily than He-Man, GI JOE or Transformers.
I prefer Harvey Birdman to Birdman. The original always seemed like a lesser version of Space Ghost, with less intriguing villains. Blue Falcon was a favorite, with Dyno-Mutt in tow.
For comics, I prefer the original Hawkman. There was just something more interesting in his reincarnation and the adventures. The sci-fi version was good, but I mostly saw him as a secondary character in JLA, which never helped me to warm to him. I've read some of the Kubert issues and they are better; but, it just never grabbed me that strongly; not compared to other sci-fi heroes, like Adam Strange.

I loved this version and thanks for posting it because he is a character that needs recognition.
