Welcome to the undersea world of being the biggest fish in the littlest pond. With soooo many aquatic heroes and villains and various other denizens of the deep we have all been exposed (put on your sun screen) to who are your top 3 favorite characters? Dive deeply, put on your waders and life jackets and don't pee in the pool while visiting!
The big 2 Kings of the sea never really interested me all that much during my youth. Namor was a loud, arrogant, pompous blowfish if ever there was one. Arthur Curry was never very Kingly, seeming to be so dry in humor and attitude while always wallowing in despair and desperation. While it was all of their friends/adversaries who were as colorful as the sea's themselves. Give me the villains: Black Manta, Attuma, Orca the Killer Wale, Ocean Master and various others. Triton and Stingray and Aqualad were some of the coolest best buds ever to swim alongside. Mera and Dorma were vivacious ladies on the clam shell who were equals to their lovers.
My favorite: Stingray. Here was an oceanographer who loved his job so much he created a complete super diving suit which allows him going to to fin with whatever he encounters during his underwater journeys. Mind and skill over raw brute strength making him one of the greats. And his original Red and White costume is perfectly designed!
#2: Black Manta. A very cool design that looks purely evil. Love the helmet design element and you can never forget his voice once having heard it in the Superfriends cartoon. I always hear that echoing and almost robotic tone of his voice whenever I read Black Manta in a comic book.
#3: Triton the Inhuman. Green scaled purple booted aquatic adventurer and royalty to boot. Stands fin to toe alongside Namor and never took a back seat in the boat. Again another perfect design.
Special mention: Creature from the Black Lagoon is always going to be on anyone's list just cause he is so damn cool looking and Aqualad of today in Titan's willing to step away from the weak sidekick aspect and exploring his own mystical skills and taking his own stance in the sand and sea.
