No love for The Man from Atlantis? or Milo thatch? or Sargasso? or U-Man? My actual 3 were Creature from the Black Lagoon and Other (there were 2 others, Abe Sapien and Captain Nemo). -M

1. Sub-Mariner, especially the early (1939-42) Bill Everett version and the fabulous sword-and-sorcery flavored Roy Thomas/John Buscema/Marie Severin run from '68-69 2. Aquaman, as illustrated by Nick Cardy, Jim Aparo, or Don Newton 3. Stingray. Love the concept, love the costume. The character I would ask for if Marvel offered me a second-stringer to write.
Honorable Mention to Neptina, Queen of the Deep, an obscure 1939-41 strip from Worth Publishing's Champion Comics stunningly illustrated by pulp artist Harry Parkhurst
Cei-U! I summon the water wings!

I summon the water wings! First I ever heard of Neptina but I looked it up and yes, really nice artwork. At first I thought you must have made a typo so I searched for "Neptuna", thinking that must be the actual name. But of course now I think of it I can see why they went with Neptina instead!

Glad to see so many "others" being spoken about. That's the inherent problem with a "poll" since you can't list everyone or everything. I have fond remembrances of watching Man from Atlantis when it was on the television set and reading the short lived Marvel comic but haven't seen either since then. Grew up always waiting for anything whether a movie or book or comic with Captain Nemo. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was a constant watch in reruns during my youth and recently renewed with MeTV showings. Enjoyed watching Speilberg's SeaQuest television series. Looking forward to Momoa's Aquaman in Justice League and his own movie.
Funny part is growing up here in the desert I inherited my mother's fear of water. I am quite fine as long as my feet touch bottom but once it goes over my head panic sets in. I can survive in a pool or small river but a lake or ocean turns my insides to quivering jelly fish!

I can survive in a pool or small river but a lake or ocean turns my insides to quivering jelly fish! Interesting. I grew up living less than an hour's drive to the South Jersey shore. So most summers we took day trips to the beach frequently. In fact the summer between high school & college my best friend & I lived there. His parents had bought a home in Somers Point. I can't remember why they couldn't get away that summer so we got to use it. Great summer!
Anyway I did not have a fear of water since I grew up around it.

My votes:
Namor is cool. In addition to the two runs Cei-U! mentioned, there's a special place in my heart for Bill Everett's return to the character in the 70s - his last work before his death. He went out on a very, very high note.
Triton is cool. Kirby's original was cool, and Neal Adams' version was really cool.
Namorita is hot! She was introduced in Everett's 70s run, mentioned above. She was about my age at the time, and was just impossibly attractive.

I also liked this Image title by Ian Churchill: Does write it too? Ian Churchill was on of my favorite artists getting into comics in the 90's and why my youngest son shares the same first name with him.

Ian wanted to write an all ages book with a different style of art than he is known for PLUS touch on something that he is passionate about. The trade has the whole series & extras about the ocean. The individual issues sell for $1.70/each on mycomicshop.com. And #6 was double sized!

I liked the green bikini costume she used to wear sometimes, if that was Namorita - there's also a character named Namora, isn't there? Or is that the same character with a variation on the name?

I wonder what the thinking was there - why didn't they just keep Namora? After all, Namor himself was around all those years ago so his cousin could be unaging in the same way. I love the character design of the original Namora, the dress and the way the artist drew her:

This is all speculation: Namorita appeared in Sub-Mariner #50. Bill Everett did this issue & maybe wanted an extra special event to mark the occasion. My memory may be wrong but I think Namorita was originally intended to be Namora's actual daughter & it was years later that she retconned to be a modified clone of Namora. Plus Namora was NOT created by Everett. She was created by Ken Bald & Syd Shores. When Everett returned to Sub-Mariner he used Namorita a fair amount. He also brought back Betty Dean.
