Though if it hasn't surfaced in, what, going on 46 years, I have my doubts it has even the remotest chance of ever doing so.
Then again, the "Will of William Wilson" (if IIRC the title) pages that've shown up over the years in Alter Ego would've been out there for about two decades longer than that. Who knows?

On the topic of completed but never published issues, I'd love to get my hands on the 1980s Whitman Magnus Robot Fighter #1. The back-up stories leading up to it were really impressive.

I finally pulled the trigger (a la DeNiro in The Deer Hunter) on a high-grade Hulk #181 in '09 in anticipation of the disappointing X-Men Origins: Wolverine, accepting that it was never gonna get any cheaper. No regrets.
The list of books I'm never gonna own is looong. It's a tough choice, but I have to go with All-American #16:
Legendary cover by Moldoff. OS classifies this one as Rare, only 10-20 total copies estimated to exist. Hopefully a few more will turn up.

On the topic of completed but never published issues, In which vein, were all the stories done for the never-published Web of Horror #4 eventually published?

Ummm...yeah. I dunno. I'm pretty confident that I'd still be just fine with a reprint of any of the comics I'm interested in. I guess if there were something I wanted to read that hasn't ever been reprinted it would be that.
Otherwise...ummm...yeah. What I'd really love is one of Don Newton's painted covers for The Phantom.

Big Number #3
For comics that exist, I will second shax on Batman #1. I have the Millennium reprint and I read it all the time. So much Golden Age material is either bad or meh. (Though not without its charm. I also read my reprints of Flash #1 and Whiz #2 pretty frequently.) But Batman #1 is simply wall-to-wall awesome. The Joker and Catwoman stories are not just important for being first appearances, they are actually fun, well written stories. And you gotta love that Hugo Strange story, with Gotham City as a place where chaos takes over for 12 or 13 pages and then the King King imagery. (Not to mention ... a second Joker story!)

The Joker stories were both pretty darn amazing, the Catwoman one was fun, and that Hugo Strange story was jaw-dropping in its morbidity. Batman lynching a monster from the batplane...wow.

As at least one other person has mentioned, I would also purchase Incredible Hulk #181, but not for the reason most people would. See, I hate Wolverine, but as I've written before, I have an OCD-like compulsion to complete runs once I've started them. So, if money were no object, I would use that wish to get a book that I wouldn't actually want to spend cash on, because I would not feel badly about buying an Iron Man #1 or Fantastic Four #48 with my own money at some point down the road.

Not all of them, but most of them were, winding up in a disparate array of prozines and fanzines like "Reality" and "I'll Be Damned" as well in Vampirella in the case of a neat Brunner tale. But according to Richard Arndt, guru of these things, among the vanished from that aborted issue were a couple Kaluta shorts. A real shame.

I guess in answer to this question I'll go with:
Captain America #1 (sporting one of Simon and Kirby's and all of comics all time classic covers) Action Comics #101 (with it's iconic atomic bomb cover) Thunda # 1 (one of the finest examples of Frazetta comic art interiors with which we have ever been treated)

We have several members here who have collected complete or near-complete runs of jaw-droppingly significant titles: Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers, Journey Into Mystery/Thor!
I lack so many qualities necessary for that level of achievement, patience and passion among them, that I am left in abject awe. I'm convinced that there's no ONE way to collect; "you must do what you feel is right, of course."

It's a toss up for me between Tales of Suspense #39 and Avengers #4 .. Though Iron Man #55 is moving up fast on the list, mostly because it's ridiculously overpriced and I don't have it yet.
