I've given away some TPBs to the library because I hated them so much: Chester Brown's "The Playboy*" a bunch of Ivan Brunetti's stuff, the first trade of the '90s Spectre.
* I mostly like Chester Brown's stuff, FWIW.

An ex-wife in a fight made me shred a comic in front of her, hence, the ex-wife... Byrne's Doom Patrol # 1 was so bad, and such a huge disappointment, I felt like ripping it, but I didn't. That is intense. I have a love of all books whether I agree with them or not. It is some else's thoughts and they all deserve respect. But that being said...the book itself is just paper and ink.

That issue of The Eltingville Club is the one where they're all old and bitter, right? Yeah, that's some dark stuff, as you'd expect. But even though Bill is an incredibly bitter and disgusting misogynist in it, I don't think the message was misogynist, because we're supposed to side with Jerry as he grows up and leaves the club for good for just that reason. It's probably a reaction to misogynist controversies that were going on in comics and gaming at the time.
I agree. The Club guys have always been loathsome 'bad examples' of the worst of fandom, and this continued it. I think we were plainly meant to side with Jerry.

I get what Dorkin was going for with the story, but it wasn't something that I particularly wanted to read again, nor did I want my daughters (who are 12 and 9) coming across it at some point and reading it, for the same reason I won't let the older one read or watch GoT. They aren't ready for that kind of language in that volume of it, nor are they ready to be subjected to that kind of misogyny, particularly in comic bool form.

I didn't destroy them, as they were a gift from a friend, but I only read them once. Marvel's "Rawhide Kid". They apparently thought it was a good idea to take this 50s character, and reboot him as gay. I was happy to receive them, as a gay man I wanted to like this book. It was the stupidest stuff I ever read....he was calling fighting bad guys boring, giving women fashion tips, opening dropping hints to his sexuality...just overall embracing every bad gay stereotype.

I assume it was meant to be a comedy - did it work on that level at all? I haven't read it, myself.

I didn't find it funny at all. Here are some panels from the story. My eyes can't roll far enough.

Marvel positioned publishing this as a gay positive move at the time. A good goal, but when I read it I was like "Not like this! Not like this!"

Seriously, did she just tear up 4 copies of Wolvie's first appearance? I don't believe it. Those had to be fakes. I get that collectors want to cull the herd to make their books more valuable in the future, but damn...those couldn't have been legit books.

She says in the video that they spent five large on the books, but the youtube description stresses that the books were "reproductions commissioned from an artist." Still. . . Also, the notion that collectors want books destroyed in order that their own books increase in value is ghoulish and I hope represents only the tiniest fraction of hobbyists.
