Hi,
I keep most of my comic books, aside from selling some to reduce my stockpile, but there are those times when I dislike a comic book so much that I no longer want it near my collection...so incensed, that I would rather burn or rip it to shreds rather than sell it for cheap. The occasions have been rare...but I remember a few...
Amazing Spider-Man #267. "The Commuter Cometh." Complete trash by Peter David. Appalling that Marvel even had the stones to put this out on the racks. BURNED it in a campfire.
Superman: Man of Steel #47. One of the handful of DC comics that I read. It was about racism and, you know, I go to my comic books for escapism and to get away from the world's problems. RIPPED it to shreds.
Sectaurs: 3. Another failed series. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Tore out the pages and used it to put under the cat's litter box.
Thankfully, these are only times I've physically destroyed comic books because I felt they weren't worthy of being with the other titles.

RIPPED it to shreds. Your moniker is from Howard the Duck, which was a comic based in social satire. It was pretty much focused on the world's problems. Your statement perplexes me.

I once had a coverless and beat up reprint comic that I recycled. But no, I can't imagine ever destroying a comic because it was bad. I have a near-religious feeling about destroying any kind of book or comic; just because I thought it was crappy, someone else might enjoy it and get hooked on reading because of it, so I will do my best to pass it on.
That said, I did once recycle an Ann Coulter book.

I trashed some comics I bought super cheap that were water damaged. I'd hoped that I could deal with them, but quickly decided that water damage is absolutely a no-go spot.
I've never trashed one because the story was bad.
I used to have a bit of a phobia about throwing out books. But I have since realized that libraries are probably the number one source for books that go in the recycling bin or the dumpster.

I have never thrown out a comic, although there were a few that were so bad that I left them laying about on tables at cons for random passers-by to pick up! And there were many I donated to libraries or friends with small kids.

An ex-wife in a fight made me shred a comic in front of her, hence, the ex-wife...
Byrne's Doom Patrol # 1 was so bad, and such a huge disappointment, I felt like ripping it, but I didn't.

If I didn't tear up Avengers the Crossing, all my other books are safe.

I've given bad comics away, but I have never, ever destroyed one because its contents were so bad. I think I must care less about comics than some people.

I've never thrown a comic book in the garbage. That's my mother's job.

At cons, I also had books with a sticker that said, "This is a free book! Take it!" stopped doing that when a girl went through every box just looking for those and took them all.

I've never thrown a comic book in the garbage. That's my mother's job. This. Even as a teenager my mother was clear about what was acceptable for me to read or not. And there were a few she trashed and tearing them up insured I didn't go back in the trash to retrieve them again. True story. I was really sheltered.

I'm real curious about what was so offensive about Man of Steel #47. I hope you wrote them a letter so they'd know to be more politically correct in the future.
