Semi inspired by the other thread about which comic you could have if money was no issue, I thought it might be good to discuss our top 3 comics that head up our want lists. For me,
#3: Avengers #89
Really want a nice mid to higher grade copy of this ish. I love me some Captain Marvel and this cover rocks. Plus, I slowly want to start putting together some Avengers from this run from about #80-120ish or so if I can and I figure this is a solid issue to start with.
#2 Amazing Spider-Man #121
I am saving up for this one. Hard to find a copy I want. I see mid grade books going for $200-250 easy and I just think I should probably cave and spend a bit more for a much nicer copy. I will own one before the new year, mark my words!
#1: Punisher Limited Series #1
Hard as can be to find and seems to be growing in value as a series. I also am missing #3. Those two issues seem to be a bugger to find. I always run across the rest here and there but I am dying to complete this seires because Zeck's work is awesome and IMO, one of the best Punisher stories outside of the newer stuff Ennis pumped out.

The three on the top of my list right now are as follows, in no particular order... DC Special #5 The Secret Lives of Joe Kubert issue Conan the Barbarian #24, 1st full appearance of Red Sonja and one of a handful of CtB issues I need for the run...(23 is her actual first appearance but this one gets he glory, much like Hulk 181) I have both in the BWS archives, so I can be patient and find it at the right price. Finally Showcase #55 an early Silver Age Dr. Fate story. I have Showcase 56, and have wanted this one for quite some time.... -M

Angry Youth Comix #1 Posted in the other thread. The self published version. I only have #10 from that series so I'd really like them all. As far as I know not reprinted anywhere.
Thorn: Tales From The Lantern A collection of Jeff Smith's college newspaper strip, featuring Bone! Also said to not be reprinted anywhere.
Slam Bang #16 Ralph Snart cover. Can't even find a cover image of this comic. All of Slam Bang vol. 1 is impossible to find.

Bought the Kubert DC Special out of the spinner racks as a kid & reacquired it a few years ago in compiling a complete run of hte title, given my weakness for all the reprint-centric DCs of my youth. Nice issue, especially the little family vignette showing a young Adam & Andy, presumably back when the concept of a work ethic didn't reduce them to quaking masses of protoplasm.

And I love that Conan cover... think I have 2 copies somewhere in my boxes.

1. Vampirella #1
Been trying to find a real solid copy of this. I've seen some in decent conditions for about $100, but I'd like to get a solid copy of a legend.
2. Showcase #27 (first Sea Devils)
I'm almost done with my run of Sea Devils, but I'd like to obtain the Showcase issues as well. And Showcase 28 and 29
3. Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane #1
I have a good majority of this run, but to own the first issue would be cool. The Showcase issues would be neat to own as well...

m, I have all of those comics and I can see what you'd like each one of them. That Kubert issue in particular brings back great memories whenever I see it. DC Special was such a unique concept (for staid old DC in particular), and I was always sorry that it went off the tracks as quickly as it did. That framing device was charming and the selection of stories was superb, and like the Infantino special (#1), it was another link to the past, a history lesson in the DC Universe. I had always hoped that the focus on one artist's work would remain the subject of at least a few of the issues, but that was not to be. Even that classy logo didn't last very long, as it got shoved into the corner of ever more cluttered covers. The Infantino and Kubert issue covers are masterpieces, especially compared to most of the unimaginative dreck that followed. For old times' sake...

Were the DC Specials reprints of old material or was it new stuff at the time? I think I only have one and it might be Swamp Thing ? not sure. Can't remember if it was an intended purpose or random. I'll have to check when I'm at home.

It's funny this came up, as I just put together my "priority list" for Pittsburgh Comicon tomorrow. The top 3 are:
#3 - Iron Man #48
#2 - Iron Man #43 - this and #3 are the last two issues I need for an entire run of Iron Man. Part is in Masterworks form (#1 - #38), while the rest is floppy.
#1 - Werewolf by Night #32 - first appearance of Moon Knight and one of the final four issues I need to complete my WBN run. I have enough money saved that I can get a decent copy of it without that being my only purchase for the show, so hopefully I can find one; there was only one copy on the floor at last year's show, it was beat to hell and back, and the guy still wanted $150 for it, so fingers crossed.

I'll have to check when I'm at home. DC Special was mostly reprints. It was reprints with some new framing material until Issue 22. 22-23 had new "Three Musketeers" stories with the balance being reprints. 26 was a reprint issue and 27-29 were new material.
