Rob Allen, for a cover indelibly etched in my memory.
Some really great covers this week!

Rob Allen
I'd prefer not having to vote for any superhero cover, let alone a Batman one, for a topic like this but I can't deny that this is my favourite of all this week's candidates.

A moment's silence for this week's entrants...
Rising from the grave to claim first place is Rob Allen, with 4 votes. His pallbearers are mrp, Crimebuster and DubipR, with 3 vote apiece. 'Third place' shall be the epitaph of outsider, chaykinstevens, and Slam_Bradley, scoring 2 votes each. And resting quietly in their graves are bert, hondobrode, Prince Hal, badwolf, kirby101, adamwarlock2099, Phil Maurice, and foxley, with 1 vote each.

Congratulations Rob. I have to say, art-wise I think that is a very weak cover. But the people have spoken.

I am often confused by the winning cover selected here, but I suppose each person has their own opinion of what is the best.

batusi and kirby101, I think you're unintentionally coming across as either sore losers and/or snobs. Rob doesn't need me to defend his choice, and since you don't give any reason you think the cover is "weak," or why the choice confuses you, your complaints have no merit. If you want to discuss the merits of the cover, I'll be there to offer mine. I respond only to remind you that this is a fun little contest. Rarely is it a runaway win; inevitably there are covers no one has ever seen before. We have never established aesthetic or technical criteria to determine a winner. I was actually torn between Rob's entry and a couple of others, in particular, chickenpocket's Timmy the Timid Ghost cover, which is 180 degrees removed from Batman 180 in very way but that it's in a graveyard. Just enjoy the fun. If you want to offer commentary, absolutely, do so. (See MW Gallaher's excellent discussion of the Phantom Stranger cover last week.) But, in the interests of our purpose here and in other threads, defend your opinion respectfully. Just don't just toss a passive-aggressive brickbat and leave. Thanks. PS: Why did it never occur to me before looking at this week's winner for maybe the three-thousandth time (just a moment or two ago) that Infantino's Death-Man design may have been something of a influence on his design of Deadman, who made his debut a year or so later?

Wow, this was a surprise! That issue is one of the few Batman comics I bought before becoming a Marvel zombie in 1966.
New contest coming up momentarily!

Don't play to win folks, play to see great covers. I see at least one every week tha I would not see otherwise. Love it! Can't wait for Rob to pick the new topic!

Prince Hal. Sorry if I came across that way. It was more an observation than a complaint. One of the things that is fun about this contest is seeing the different views on the covers. People might have voted on this for their nostalgic feelings for that issue, or they really liked the cover. I just found it artistically weak. So it was curious to me that it won over ones with much better art (IMO) or that were more iconic. And pinkfloydsound. That is exactly how I play it. Love posting and love seeing all the covers. Congrats again to Rob, it's all good.

Maybe you could even start a thread in which you post a generally accepted iconic or beloved cover and explain why you don't think it's all that good. I know I'd be there in a second! (And I'd be glad to tear apart a few Mike Grell "masterpieces" myself!) Still mystified why you don't think Batman 180 is "weak." Start that thread, man!
