Marvel house style can smother even Gil Kane. Very true, and I think the main reason Kane's (and everyone else's!) early 70s Marvel covers often weren't all that great - though I admit that even the worst of them carry a certain nostalgia value for me now. Still a striking enough cover that it obscures one of the great typos of the Bronze Age, the corner of the mast-head that blithely proclaims "MARVEL TWO ON ONE." It wouldn't be the final indignity for the Man-Thing, as the advent of the Giant-Size line would soon drive home.

Badda bing.

^One of the few Gil Kane efforts I dislike...not a fan of the way Man-Thing looks here. Mind you, I have seen this cover also give credit to Romita so maybe it is more his work on this collaboration that I don't particularly love. Excellent punch though! This is more Kane than anything else, and it reminds me that Kane was a fine artist, but there were certain characters his style never served well, such as the F.F., Luke Cage (unless working with Romita), Superman, Hulk, Captain America, Wonder Woman, or Galactus.

I have to disagree about some of those. I really liked his work on those first two issues of Two-In-One. Of course that could have a lot to do with Sinnott's inks. I also liked his Superman. particularly the Action where they revamped Luthor and Brainiac. But he had a unique style that became more exaggerated in his later work, especially as he inked himself. So some of his work could seem jarring or not fitting, depending on personal taste.

Prince Hal delivered the most powerful punch this time, but I was tempted to vote for bert's cover, because I really dig Shark Brodie (seriously, his early adventures were really bizarre!), and Farrar's classic offering of the Flash punching the Spectre is a stunner (it's also the only good thing about that issue, IMO!).
