Like many comic artists of the Silver and Bronze age, Kane lent their talents to licensed characters/products. Here, we see Gil Kane's work for the famed Aurora Plastics Corporation and their 1974 reissue of The Lone Ranger model kit. In addition to the Lone Ranger, the company also reissued 60s kits of Superman, Superboy, Batman, Robin, Captain America, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Tonto and Tarzan. In a brilliant move, Aurora added a shortened comic book with the last page serving as a backdrop for the model, using the artists most popular/known for the characters at the time (e.g. Herb Trimpe for the Hulk, John Romita, Sr. for Spider-Man & Captain America, Dave Cockrum for Superboy, et al.). In the case of characters with no known or then-currently published artist association, other talents were brought in, as in the case of the Lone Ranger and Tonto--the latter's Aurora box and comic also illustrated by Kane. Enjoy!
