It's effin' snowing again. On May 17.
The ground is already too warm for the snow to accumulate, but it's rather depressing.

Yeah, I can relate; it's been unseasonably cold and very rainy over here for the past week - there's even major flooding in parts of the country. And we've had to fire up the stove a few times, in friggin' mid-May...

Perfect Spring day, here....sunny, cool breeze, birds chirping, cats in the window contemplating murdering the birds.............glass of iced tea....only thing missing is some watermelon; but, I am saving that for dinner, tonight.

We've just set a new record for the most consecutive days over 90 degrees in May. Yeah, I've heard about it from my sister, who lives just south of Salem - she sent me pics of the flowers and vegetables flourishing in her back yard and can't believe she has to water the plants this early (that's usually a mid-summer thing). I never remember temps getting that high in May when I was growing up in the Willamette Valley back in the '70s and '80s.

The forecast says today will not reach 90, so the worst of this heat wave is over. It's been tolerable because the overnight lows have stayed in the 50s. It's only hot in the afternoon.

Last night my wife and I are awakened by the "BEEP!" that the oven makes when power is being turned on again after going out. I get up and go check things out... and I see that there's a good 5 inches of fresh snow on the balcony, with more falling (densely).
It's 2 in the morning, but we have a rather long driveway (we live in the country) and I know that it'll take at least an hour and a half to clean all this. I also have to be in class by 8 AM. Should I go back to bed and wake up at 4 to start shovelling? Seeing how ridiculously Christmas-y the snowfall is, it might be better not to take any chance; I might have to tackle 8 inches of snow if I wait that long! Plus, the last time such a thing happened, the snow was very wet and pretty hard to move around.
So I get dressed and start shovelling. It's actually good snow: it holds in the shovel, but isn't soaked. No wind, either, and the temperature is mild. The problem is that it's snowing so hard that it takes about ten minutes for whatever I've removed to come back! I must have cleared the driveway twice altogether. Luckily (?) entertainment was provided by transformers blowing up regularly in the neighbourhood.
The good side is that a few hours later the snow turned to sleet, and if I hadn't removed what was already on the ground it would have become very, very heavy indeed. Plus they're forcasting a drop in temperature later on, so it might also have turned to ice.
I ended at 4:45. I went to work early, as we didn't have power at home and no coffee was to be had.
I miss my bed.

So, after the 18 inches of snow on Thursday night it decided to turn bitter cold. It isn't supposed to get above freezing before maybe Saturday. So all that snow is just hanging out in big piles everywhere since it can't melt. Winter came awfully early this year.

Hope the power comes back soon. Have you thought of a generator? We installed one about 10 or 12 years ago and it has been invaluable, both summer and winter.

We actually have one, but we'd have to modify the electrical panel to connect the whole house; the previous owner did... something to it to connect his Tesla, and there's no more room to install an interlock! I have to call an electrician one of these days. Right now we just plug the fridge if the power outage lasts too long. I love the idea of those power walls, too...

Good luck getting the power back, RR!

It's Groundhog Monday!
Heavy snowfall starting yesterday night, just like last Monday.
Shovelled snow from 00h15 to 1H45, then again from 5h30 to 6h15. (Last Monday it was from 2h00 to 4h45).
No power (because of course) like last Monday. They're expecting the line to be back on at about 14h00.
Luckily, this time the snow blower is full of gas... so when I get back from work, I'll be able to free the driveway.
Winter wonderland, my (expletive deleted)!

So, after having dumped 18 inches of snow on us the Friday after Thanksgiving, then turning very cold and giving us another 2-3 inches over the last week and a bit...it is now turing warm and is supposed to hit 50 degrees F. tomorrow. So we are going to have extensive flooding on the North Side. So that's going to be fun.
