That's part of the reason that I'll buy a book that is beat up, I don't have to treat it like a Michelangelo painting.

First comic my parents bought me would have been a cartoon tie in from Harvey or Gold Key or Charlton in 1966.
First adventure themed comic my dad bought me would have been the Lone Ranger around that time.
First super hero comics I picked out on my own were Spider-Man & a World's Finest (I know it had both Superman & Batman in it) in 1968.

I adore my well loved torn, used, abused, ripped, yellowing and aged but thoroughly readable stuff. Really always on the watch for old war, western and funny stuff for cheap reading because so much of the older gold or silver age goodies can't be found for reasonable prices. I purposefully dig through the dollar boxes at any shop I visit as part of the thrill of the hunt and digging for buried treasures. I likes my comics to reflect their true age and imperfections just as I do!

Yeah I think there is something nice about owning a comic or book that clearly been read a lot and enjoyed, and as whoever sold it must want others to enjoy it to.

I remember buying a Batman comic w/ Two Face on the cover in the early/mid 1970s, and it was one of the giant issues. Maybe this one? Memory gets a little foggy there
