Right now I have about 2000. The most I ever had at one time was probably 5000. In my adult life the least amount I ever owned at one time was 200. I estimate I have read about 20,000 in my lifetime.

My clz app tells me I have 17,543 and I estimate that I have about 3k still to load. Its about 17k too many which I hope to start rectifying soon. Been saying that for a while though

Now it's my turn to be ocd. I was told that the long boxes hold 300 comics and the short 150. I'm guessing depending on the bags and boards it can vary, but 200 for a long box is a bit of an underestimation.

I dislike the term "floppies" too and never use it myself. Actually, I'd never even heard it before encountering this community, back at the CBR site, and I've never heard anyone on this side of the Atlantic use the term. Myself, I just use the term comics or comic books for single issues. Collections of comic books I own are either called trade paperbacks or graphic novels.

It's finding the sweet spot where the ones in front don't start to sag and bend, but you can still leaf through them.

Way too many. I'm looking to offload close to 3000/3500 comics and keep the essentials...

Keeping in mind that my math is always sketchy, I have approximately 4200 single issues. At its absolute peak back in the mid-80s, I had around 8,500.

According to my Excel spreadsheet, I've got 4,967 comics. Hey, I've got to get 33 more for an even 5,000! I've probably got about 50 TPB's, I'm guessing.

Yeah...they aren't floppies. They're funnybooks.

For a while people called them "pamphlets". I didn't like that one either.

Yeah...they aren't floppies. They're funnybooks. Not in the UK they're not. Over here they're just called comics or sometimes comic books. "Funny books" is another term that I hadn't ever encountered prior to joining this community, way back when (and it was probably you I first heard using it ). I have a feeling that the comic strip supplements that came with some newspapers were known as "the funnies" by bygone generations, but the term funny books is definitely not one I've come across in the UK.

I really like "floppies" - heck, it's one of the few comic terms I don't have a huge problem with. I generally refer to hardbound comics as "comics" - Graphic Novel sounds pretentious to me and the "novel" part is often inaccurate. So, when I need to differentiate, "floppies" is the term that communicates non-square bound non-magazine size comics most effectively. It ALSO gets across the "we're not trying to be art" commercial nature of (most) of 'em, as contrasted against a 25 dollar Drawn and Quarterly hardcover.

I had well over 10K when I sold off my Silver Age stuff before moving to Ohio. Over the last few years the number of comics I had had ballooned to over 9K again before my big purge at the end of last year. I got rid of about a third of the stuff I had at the end of last year, but because the remodel of the upstairs of the house is ongoing, I haven't had a chance to go back and get a better sense of what I still have numbers wise though, so I can;t give an exact number right now. -M I went through what I have catalogued (and there are some inaccuracies there as I caught a few things that went in the purge that hadn't been removed and I am sure there are a few more I didn't catch) and there are a few piles of stuff to be cataloged still waiting for the remodel to be done to be able to unpack them and have the work space to do it, but according to the catalogue, the number just under 7300, so with uncatalogued stuff I'd put the number at about 7500. I am also in the process of cataloging trades, I am about 2/3 of the way through and currently have 592 trades/hc/omnibus/art books. The goal as time goes by is for the number of floppies to decrease and the number of trades to continue to grow. -M
