Finally saw this tonight. (I love having the theater to myself!) It was pretty good, certainly better than Dr. Strange or Spider-Boy. I liked that it didn't have a lot of overt ties to the other films; all the cross-referencing is making me weary.
I was surprised how good Jordan was in this, since he was dreadful in the FF film.
Has Agent Ross appeared before? In Age of Ultron maybe? His involvement with Klaw was in media res, so it seemed that way, but I can't remember

Oh, and what was the post-credit scene about? Where does it occur in continuity? And why do they keep bringing this boring character back?

Oh, and what was the post-credit scene about? Where does it occur in continuity? And why do they keep bringing this boring character back? It was about Black Panther following through on his commitment to help out Bucky in the post-credit scene from Captain America: Civil War. It occurs between Black Panther and Avengers 3. They clearly don't find him as boring as you do.

Finally watched Black Panther last night on Blu-Ray and really enjoyed it. It definitely made my list of top-tier MCU films. I missed it in the theaters at the time so now I'm excited to go watch Infinity War.

It was finally on Netflix today, so I could see if it lived up to the hype... and by golly, it pretty much did!
I still have a serious problem with Marvel’s third act video game fights... But luckily, this one was not overly long.
The world of Wakanda was really cool, really well designed, and I liked that its people’s language was not English. (Was it Xhosa?)
The film’s best asset was its large number of interesting characters, with an oustanding job by both Boseman and Jordan as the main opponents. (M’Baku might be my favourite supporting character, though!) Most Marvel films have rather cookie-cutter villains, but here Killmonger really got viewers to understand his point of view.
The plot was richer than I expected, honestly, and the James Bond-ish sequence in Korea was a lot of fun. It’s interesting that Shuri is the brains of the Wakandan royal family; had T’Challa been as good at everything as in the comics, the supporting cast might have appeared a little redundant. Here, they really carried the movie!
Definitely one of my favourite superhero movies, up there with Avengers, Winter Soldier and Thor: the dark world.
Now that the dust has settled, I wonder... might not the Wakandans reconsider their politics regarding royal succession? What if the heir apparent is unable to fight a challenger who is bent on destroying what the country represents?

I would agree, though I'm not sure how much of that is the screenplay, and how much is brought forward from the comics - there's certainly bits of Panther's Rage in there, and may be other stuff as well (I haven't read much BP since the McGregor days, so I wouldn't know) I'd agree with that - it really could have done with pulling out more of a wild card somewhere. Having said that, I think they did a pretty good job of misdirection with the trailers - if you went in expecting it to play out like the trailer content, you would have been majorly surprised. The only problem is that the trailers (at least the 2nd one) hinted at a more interesting film! Aside form Killmonger himself as the opponent, the films draw far more from the Christopher Priest and Reggie Hudlin runs of Panther for the look, feel and tone of the film, and some from the Stelfreeze designs for Wakanda and its inhabitants from the current Coates run. Everett Ross is a major supporting character from Priest's run, Shuri and Ramonnda were played up a lot in Hudlin's run, the look and function of Claw's arm from John Romita Jr.s designs in the Hudlin run, etc. It pretty much drew on elements of all the runs of Panther form the comics for its inspiration and cast of characters, but more heavily on the stuff from Priest and Hudlin to my eye. -M Just read a comment from Christopher Priest about this very subject:

I think there's a problem with the Dora Milaje, myself, in as it strikes me as disturbingly harem-like. I'm surprised there hasn't been any criticism of it, as far as I know.
