I think I'd feel weird reading comics with a friend nowadays. I mean, sure, as a kid of 8 or 9, and probably up until 15 or so, I often used to read comics with a friend. The two of us, up in one of our bedrooms -- one of the floor, one on the bed -- swapping comics and reading them together.
Sitting with another 40-something guy, reading comics in a bedroom would be a very strange thing to do, I think.
I don't know if I've changed, or my friends have? Or maybe both?

Reading comics in a bedroom. Wink. Wink. Nudge. Nudge.
Your post made me think about the Monty Python sketch...

But you left out the best part: wearing our favorite Underoos while we're reading together.

I've been dealing with a mental "block" of sorts in my comic reading for several years now. Either my mind starts wandering to other things and keeps me from getting fully immersed, or I become incredibly sleepy after 1 or 2 comics. It's frustrating already, and I've compounded it by never slowing down buying my new titles or working on complete runs of back issues. For my back issues, I prefer to read 1 title/character/team, chronologically until I get tired of it, and move to something different for awhile. Back when I was keeping pretty current, each week I would read my least favorite titles first, with my favorites sprinkled throughout my pile. Lately, both my old and brand new issues get added to the database at comicspriceguide.com and filed away until I get through this phase I'm stuck in. Whenever that happens, I have no idea where I'll even start, but I'll have a ton of complete runs, both old and new, to chose from. Makes me nervous to think about it, so I try to ignore the sense of being overwhelmed. I realize it's only a problem because I allow it to bother me, but it's not something I've been able to get over.

I've had that at moments. I guess when it becomes a chore, it's best to step away for a while.

I've gotten the "feeling sleepy really quickly" thing too, Pat T. With me, it's happened more and more as I've gotten older. I'm in my 40s now and I've always loved reading comics in bed, but when I do, I'm lucky to make it through two issues before my eyelids start dropping. Back in my 20s or 30s, I could read 7 or 8 issues before going to sleep no problem. No way I can do that now. It's annoying, but I just have to accept it as part of getting older.

Yeah, I tried reading with my eyes shut. Never worked for me. (And that Seuss book's title is very misleading - I thought it was a how-to manual...)
