Lately I noticed that when I pull out comics to read, I take about 20 books from various titles. I usually don't read them all and end up putting half of them back. Sometimes I pull out runs by a specific writer/artist team, sometimes just the books that I just purchased in any order. Does it matter if you have gaps in a storyline? Do you skip books you have never read to just read a familiar favorite? How does everyone here read their comics?

I just grab one of 105 DC Archives and/or Marvel Masterworks books and once a year - on a rainy weekend - I'll read the entire Grant Morrison's run of 127 JLA books in order and I've usually do this in the Fall.
Life at Random and that's how I read my Comics and I read about 1-2 hours a week.

I most often read one title at a time (arc is not really correct, as it's more about what comics I happen to have). When I'm getting newly released comics, I'll generally group them (Superman Titles, Star Wars Titles, X-titles, etc) and read them as groups I do also have a milk crate of random stuff I've picked up I dip into on ocassion that's just one at a time, but that's not nearly as often. Gaps sometimes bother me.. depends on the story. If it's a multi part arc, I'll generally read up to the gap, and try to guess if the one missing is important or not, then decide if it's worth seeking out. Other times I'll wait until I have a solid run before reading any.

When I pick up monthly/weekly batch of new comics, I usually start reading with the ones I like the least first and building up to the ones I want to read the most, occassionally skipping ones depending on time/mood (some titles are not easy to read late at night).
Humble Bundles I read alphabetically.
If I'm in the mood to read backissues, I usually pick a run I haven't read in a long time.

I voted "One arc at a time of a specific title" because out of the available options that's the best fit for my back issue reading habits. If we're talking new comics, then I just read single issues of a title, depending on what I got that month.

Had to go with Random books one after another. Sometimes it is more random than others. Usually once a month (every 4-6 weeks) I hit the LCS on a Friday night after work or a Saturday morning off and pick up those few monthly issues I still follow and anything of interest which may have come out recently and then home to read those. Rest of the time I usually have an Epic/Essential or TPB/Omnibus or 2 or 3 that I am reading a few stories at a time and usually a handful (10-20) of single issues odds and ends pulled from the long boxes. Once in awhile the urge to read a continued arc or series hits and then that is dug out from the box and read a few issues at a time. I find mixing up what I am reading works best as it helps keep my interest for reading further and not burning out or being bored from what I am reading. And I so wanted to start off with saying one page at a time

I've always been a run reader, but I'm trying to shake myself loose of that a bit and make reading more fun and less structured, so I do occasionally grab a floppy from the box that's been on my mind for a random re-read. I also have a spinner rack stocked with a variety of runs I am either currently reading or intend to read so that I can regularly change up which one I read next.

My collection of floppies from 30 years ago is boxed in the attic. I have a bookshelf full of trades, and I'm generally reading the newest one I just acquired. I have a stack of those on my bedside table to go through sequentially.

I have to confess that I'm just looking to change my bad habits. Many times I go to the attic and pull about 20 issues of a mix of short arcs and random stuff but end of returning them back upstairs mostly unread. Last year I read a good 60 issues in a row of Master Of Kung Fu in an effort to finally read the entire run. I stopped at around 90. What I do is like going to a buffet, loading up the plate and not eating everything I took.

Last year I read a good 60 issues in a row of Master Of Kung Fu in an effort to finally read the entire run. I stopped at around 90. What I do is like going to a buffet, loading up the plate and not eating everything I took. This is partially why I like the collected formats in trades and omni's. I have them on a shelf and use my bookmarks and just pull out whatever I may be feeling in the mood for and read issues from the marked spot until I am "full" so to say of that particular comic. Then bookmark my place and can pick it up again later on. Sometimes it is only a story arc or a single issue or two that satisfies my hunger and other times I may get really involved and blow through the entire trade in a couple of nights. That happened Sunday afternoon when I received my 1st book of the Don Rosa Library edition. After opening it and flipping through it then it kept on calling to me so I read the 1st story of the book and put it away. Later on that night I woke up and couldn't sleep so I read the next story and went back to bed. Woke up early Monday morning and read another story over breakfast. Monday night watched a Karloff DVD and then last night after work finished off the Rosa book.

Right now I have on my kitchen table- JLA (v 1) 147-149, Thor Epic collection " God of Thunder", Ms. Mystic 4-9, Astro City (v.1) 5-6, and Strikeforce Morituri 1-9. And I'm conflicted about what to read next. Maybe If I just pulled one title at a time, I could knock them off without carrying some books around for no reason. Again, it's just a bad habit I'm trying to break.

It's a mish mash for me, so I chose various different titles, various genres. It depends what format I am reading in. Sometimes I read an OGN, I'll read the whole thing uninterrupted. Sometimes I do the same with a trade. If it's a larger trade of older material (say a DC Showcase or an omnibus), I might read an issue or two before moving on to something else. If it is newer stuff, sometimes I read the issues as they come out, sometimes I let a few pile up before reading them. Sometimes I find a single issue I want to read, sometimes an arc. Sometimes I am reading 2 or 3 runs at the same time, swapping back and forth a few issues at a time and other times I take a deep dive into a run. Sometimes i read digitally via Marvle Unlimited or Hoopla, and read an issue here or there at a time while I am eating lunch or taking a break form working on a house project, other times I will just read a bunch of issues in a row, Sometimes I read things as soon as I get home form a show, or within a couple of days, other times they just get added to the read pile. Generally I read whatever the mood strikes me to read. If I get tired of it, or am not enjoying it, or the mood hits me to try something else, I switch.
Just for example, currently I am making my way through the following stuff
in trade: Showcase Presents Hawkman Vol. 2 Black Panther Epic Collection Panther's Rage Tenements, Tower & Trash
digitally: Silver Age Thor Tales to Astonish Lee/Kirby FF Claremont X-Men DC Meets Looney Toons
single issues: Sandman Mystery Theatre Conan the Adventurer
in prose: Journey Through Dreamtime: Oceanic Myths The Lies of Locke Lamora 5 Minutes to Success: Master the Craft of Writing Conan (the first Ace paperback)
plus a stack of new comics from my last visit to the lcs and mixing in other trades and such from the library, my recent Ollie's purchases, or what have you and other single issues and mini-series I pulled out from boxes and stacks to make a read pile...
There really isn't a rhyme or reason beyond this is what I feel like reading to how I go about it. I don't want to make it feel like required reading, so a don't set up anything resembling a syllabus as to what I need to read next, I don't want to make it feel like work, I just want to read to enjoy what I am reading and what will bring me joy can change depending on what I am feeling. Some days I want super-heroes, others fantasy, others sci-fi, others just an engrossing story I can invest in for a few hours, some days I want to challenge myself and learn or try new things others I want to revisit old favorites or read new stuff with favorite characters. It's why I surround myself with so much reading material, so I can go and explore where the mood strikes (and why having the comic room a shambles mid-project has been a little frustrating because accessibility to some stuff is an issue).

I only collect one comic so usually if I want to re-read stories I have to search for them and pick out all the ones with that story which means possible 14 comics depending how long the story ran. Or if I really like it I but the trade paper back so its easier. Then I read that from start to end not usually with anything else.

I read whatever goes on for old and new comics. Short filler story arcs before a big event are better such as Superman's Crisis at Hand right before Death of Superman.

Setting aside for the moment the fact that I don't currently have time to read the comics in my personal collection and assuming I don't just grab an Archive or Essential off the bookshelf, I tend to haul out a box and read whatever's in it. My boxes are organized by character, genre, era and/or publisher (i.e., Batman titles, war books, Silver Age Marvel, Bronze Age DC, etc.).
