Bought fresh off the racks of the comic shop in October 1987 (well actually, held at the comic shop until I came home for Thanksgiving that year) Action #596 had to get the Spectre Adventures of Superman #437 I was still grooving to post-Crisis Supes Avengers #288 (I was sorely disappointed in Avengers at this point and considering dropping it for the first time by choice not forced circumstance, and it was one of the last handful of Marvel books I was getting at this point, as I had gone mostly all in on DC after Legends) Batman #416 Daredevil Born Again tpb-I had the originals but I was falling in love with the idea of the trade, I had loved the Fireside Marvel books as a kid, and grabbed Dark Knight Returns in trade when it was released, and jumped at this too, I guess I was an early adopter of the trade as a format for comics Detective 582 Doc Savage 3 Dreadstar 35 Flash 9 Forever People 1 Green Arrow 1 Green Lantern Corps 221 Hellblazer 2 Hulk 340 (no I don't have it anymore) Justice League International 10 Millennium 4-7 and even then I wondered why and it was the end of my love affair with Englehart's writing Secret Origins 23 Spectre 10 Strange Tales 11 Superman 14 Wonder Woman 13 World of Krypton 3 I had dropped most of my Marvel titles from my pull on my first trip home from university at the end of September, so my list had become very DC heavy, with only a couple Marvel books and Dreadstar on it. I occasionally picked up books off the stands in Boston when I went into the city form campus (which is how I ended up with Hulk 340 and the Born Again tpb). -M

Always liked Superman, but really, really loved the post-Crisis Superman with multiple titles and tighter continuity Chaykin even though he's only writing it Giffen has a history of getting radical with titles trying to shake them up, which I mostly like Maroto's art here is typically beautiful and a great pick for the series Would love to see more Amethyst. Was another reason why I really loved the New52 Frankenstein Agent of SHADE with her in it DeMatties, usually worth getting, and Kent Williams, a more sophisticated artist Epic is sorely missed. Sure, Marvel has Icon but really doesn't use it like Goodwin it Epic Traded my treasured copies of Uncanny X-Men since Marvel was reprinting them (although I didn't know until later it wasn't of course exact reprints - sigh) They had color new covers and bonus material with art by John Bolton

This was a one-shot that celebrated Comico's fifth anniversary with a one page overview of each title it's put out. I bought quite a few titles from them and this was a nice little primer. Hardly anyone remembers Comico or this issue, at least that I've talked with. I only had the first two Pocketbook reprints of the BWS Conan issues, and really liked the cover here I was supporting Dark Horse from early on and enjoyed an anthology with new characters. Notice the second appearance of The Mask, or The Masque as he was originally known Doc Savage, another great classic character, whom I knew of but had hardly any material of, and work by the Kuberts While not as good as the original stories, like American Flagg, I stayed with Dreadstar until the end I missed the original Forever People series, and I don't think it had been reprinted at this date, so, knowing it had connection to the Fourth World and Kirby, I bit.

Nice Kevin Maguire. This was an interesting twist on the League we hadn't seen before I liked Dredd and this was kind of like that Had a dangerous feel to it, and another excellent Epic series While I didn't care for the New Universe, I actually kind of liked this radical attempt to do something with it

Was this a deliberate iron Man tribute or just a coincidence?

OHOTMU was fun. These dead character issues were fun as well, since, you know, they're dead and gone, like Warlock, right ? I knew this was a Charlton character but I'd never read any of his previous appearances. Can't remember anything now. Don't think DC has used him since then ? The Punisher was a hit so who can fault Eclipse for getting some of that action ? One of the best things Denny O'Neil has ever done and great work by Denys Cowan as well Looking forward to sitting down and reading the entire run someday. Truman has some good ideas This was a fun series. Swamp Thing was a big deal then, so this Floronic Man entry was timely. The Guardians are, and always have been, kind of weird.

Always good for a laugh. Who doesn't like this series ? I love love love the Shadow, one of the few characters I'd follow almost anywhere except that horrible series Archie put out in the 60's. Controversial and non-traditional, but it was really good. It's a crying shame that this and other series never get a proper resolution, at least ending the current storyline. Again, another character I will mostly buy any series he's in. I like how Moench brought him closer to earth as more of a ghost and less The Hand of Vengeance. Cloak & Dagger are ok, but Dr Strange was the real reason I was buying this One of the best series of the 80's Byrne's Superman was ok, not great, but Byrne still cared at this point, and I liked seeing his take on other DC characters, like GL here.

Swampy was still great post-Alan Moore. I really liked Veitch's run and that beautiful Alcala art Haven't read this, but will eventually when I get that collection sorted. I admire Truman for doing his thing. It was about here where the wheels were coming off the X-franchise for me, but I stubbornly stuck with it for a while after this. Never cared for Johnny Romita's X-Men, though I liked his Spidey, esp his return to the character, and Iron Man. His X-Men just didn't feel like it was a good fit Much as I like what Perez did with reinvigorating Wonder Woman, I felt that the title depending too much on mythology Look at the talent on this mini : Byrne, Simonson, Mignola and Garzon I liked the Simonsons returning to the X-Men's original core team, though I can't help but hear my then current LCS manager saying, "They were cancelled years ago. They're boring. Why would Marvel think they could carry their own title again ?" At the time that kind of offended me, but I've never forgotten it. Apocalypse was intriguing.
