I thought that the fourth world stuff fit nicely in with the limited Dc characters they used. The only exception was forcing Deadman into a few issues of Forever people. I was thinking more of what 's been done afterwards by writers other than Kirby.
I don't want to take anything away from those readers who do like the the new Gods in the DCU or the Eternals in the MU, just talking about my own preferences, as usual.

I used this in a recent Cover Contest - it's Cockrum inked by Bob Wiacek, and it's the last issue of Rawhide Kid.

About Cockrum himself, I sometimes found his style a little bland but every now and then he would come up with something special, an image so striking that it reached iconic levels. This one of Mantis in Englehart's Avengers, for example:

Wow, I remember having that issue of GL (#128), but until now I had completely forgotten that he drew that story in the middle (with a framing sequence done by regular series penciler Joe Staton). Thanks for reminding me. It would have been wonderful if Cockrum had done more work on stories involving the space-faring adventures of Green Lantern, or some other SF-type protagonist, like Adam Strange.

Mark Evanier's book said Kirby was looking for health benefits for his family and more stability and Goodman shot it down; and, that Stan had been angling to make Kirby art director.

Cockrum's cover was actually used for the Penguin Classics edition of A Princess of Mars... To me, it's a toss-up as to who did the sexier (and most unclad in a Code-approved comic) Dejah Thoris; Dave Cockrum or Murphy Anderson Cockrum (and Kane, before him) certainly had a more beefcake John Carter.

Yep I remember being surprised when I saw that Penguin edition in a bookstore.

In regards to Cockrum's Avengers, he also did a bunch of Avengers pin-ups and illustrations in FOOM #6-7 around this same time. And more.

As much as I did like Canadian George Freeman's Jack Of Hearts, this character sheet by Dave Cockrum and some of his Iron Man covers makes me wish he could've done a full comic of him... I think this ran in Marvel Premiere #44 or on the letters page in a later issue about this one-off Jack Of Hearts issue.

I got a copy of this one Amazing Heroes hoping to learn more about The Futurians and I did! Is there anything else like this out there about them or Cockrum in general? I have Alter Ego #78 (digital) which is probably the single best fan magazine about him but I thought there might be some others I don't know about.

I believe he did at least one interview for Comic Book Artist (#6?). I wouldn't be surprised if David Anthony Kraft had at least one interview with him, in Comics Interview.

Yes, there's an interview with Cockrum in Comic Book Artist #6; there's also a lengthy joint interview with him and Mike Grell in Back Issue #14, which is dedicated to the Legion of Superheroes.
