I agree with you there. He just doesn't come across as Aquaman to me, more so than a goofy surfer dude that's showhorned in as Aquaman. This gets to the issue of "What is Aquaman like"? For most viewers, Superman is a Boy Scout, and Batman is a creepy vigilante, but Aquaman has no clear personality. He could be a carefree frat boy princeling like Thor, whose main experience of royalty has been luxury. Or a haughty, prickly monarch like Namor or Dr. Doom. Or a Luddite eco-terrorist. Or a lovelorn poet who just wants to be where the people are, up where they walk, up where they run, up where they stay all day in the sun. It all depends on what story gets told about the society in which he lives underwater, and his relationship to it. I mean, does he need to be boxed in like that? I've always thought Aquaman was like Diana. Just a generally normal person. I mean he's had an identity crisis to a degree with his upbringing, but so has Superman. Actually, I don't see how Superman is anymore of a boyscout than Aquaman or Hawkman is.

Actually, I don't see how Superman is anymore of a boyscout than Aquaman or Hawkman is. Well, I don't know that giving a character a personality constitutes "boxing them in." I was just giving some examples of possible distinct personalities that an "Aquaman" might have. I don't see Diana as a "generally normal person." She's a princess made of magic clay, the only kid growing up in a utopian time-lost monarchy containing only women, thrust out of that environment by destiny. There are all sorts of directions that her personality could take from that initial precis; here are four: Ruthless warrior princess Diana Fish out of water Diana Avenger of abused women Diana Fashion plate Diana: Hawkman is another character who, like Aquaman, has no firm personality in the mind of the culture. He too could be taken lots of directions. Aloof alien scientist? Hard-bitten policeman? Hygenically challenged feathery weirdo? Preening health buff? So sure, you could make Aquaman and Hawkman into Supes-like Boy Scouts. Or not.

That trailer works an awful lot better if you turn the sound off - it's dramatic (albeit with some iffy CGI, notably the bit where Aquabro's mother dives into the sea), but with the sound on... OMG The uber-portentous voice-over, Momoa's dreadful voice acting, the whole thing just sounds hackneyed as as get out.

Totally the other side of the fence
I liked it before and I like it even more now
Really looking forward to this, but I'm a big DC fan, so...

This is looking like all kinds of thrill and fun! Looking forward to it more and more with each trailer. Really gets the "human" aspect of Aquaman versus the nobility of being King whether he wants it or not. And for all the nay sayer's over the whole "aqua-bro" aspect with Momoa, personally I think it helps and is quite believable in the current world setting. Tell me lifting that submarine up and out of the ocean isn't just a totally to quote "bad ass" moment! Black Manta armored up makes total sense in order to be a real kind of threat as well within the depths of the ocean. He is a one man submersible juggernaut!

Yeah, nothing in this longer trailer has changed my mind, this one looks like it could be rather enjoyable - more toward the Wonder Woman end of the spectrum of DC films.

Both Shazam and Aquaman are going to do well, with different demographics.

Out grocery shopping (here in Zagreb) yesterday and found this amusing: Sky Cola is a pretty popular brand in the region (produced by a Bosnian-based beverage company) which has apparently signed some kind of marketing deal with Warner Entertainment, as their packaging has images of the DC movie heroes for many months now. This is the first time I noticed the Aquaman labels though, I guess because the movie is coming soon.

It looks like they spent 10x as much money on this than they did Justice League lol.
Oh DC/WB, you guys really have your priorities straight...

The only one that has come anywhere near working for me was the first 90 minutes of Dark Knight - albeit I'm not as blown away by Heath Ledger's Betelgeuse impression as others are, it's still a pretty good film up to that point ... but then there's an hour of superfluous crap tacked on the end, which totally ruined the film for me. It was also boring as hell whenever the Joker wasn’t on screen. What’s the most thrilling non-Joker scene in that movie? Lucius Fox planting a cellphone in a desk drawer?

Reviews starting to come in on Aquaman - could fairly describe them as "mixed" - lots of fairly negative ones, and most of the positive ones are along the lines of "fun but shallow", "rollercoaster but underdeveloped" (I'm paraphrasing)
One pretty savage review included these lines, that pretty much echoed my reaction to the trailer: "... The latest movie from the DC Universe is an embarrassing shamble that is highlighted by clunky dialogue, characters who constantly shout their dialogue and hackneyed CGI special effects that look as if interns created them...."

I'm thinking about seeing it too ... probably see it on the 23rd. For what I heard that I'm pulling for Aquaman and not so for Shazam ... Shazam is not my cup of tea.

It doesn't look great and the reviews have largely been negative, but I'll probably drop $4 bucks next week to see it as a matinee at my local movie house (or more like $12, since I'll take my girls with me).
Sometimes I want Schindler's List or Saving Private Ryan, and sometimes I just want big, loud, and punchy.

Can't stand the savage surfer dude Aquaman, but I do want to see Black Manta.
