I'd love to read that SF book Bolan says he'd written, and to hear the 8 tracks he did with Bowie. Didn't know about Angie Bowie being a Marvel fan.
Did that interview with Alex Harvey ever happen and did they talk about comics?

Did that interview with Alex Harvey ever happen and did they talk about comics? She optioned Daredevil and Black Widow, to do a tv series, but never even shot a pilot....

ps She also tested for Wonder Woman, in 1974. She claimed they wanted her to wear a bra for the test shoot and she got snarky and they didn't like it, then also claimed a producer tried a casting couch maneuver and she kicked him out of her dressing room. The Comic Reader had a piece, in 1975, about the Daredevil photo shoot and the dialogue sample they used was straight out of the comic's more purple prose. It wasn't going to sell, especially with the way the Daredevil actor (Ben Carruthers) looks. She claimed budget concerns kept it from selling. Angela Bowie has had a long history of publicity and attention seeking and a loose relationship with facts and the truth. Even her son, Duncan Jones, hasn't had a relationship with her, since he was 13, calling her a "corrosive person." We used to carry her memoir, at B&N, and I flipped through it once. From what little I read of it, the media seemed to have a pretty accurate picture of her. She loooks too thin for Wonder Woman, in photos..... She never did develop an acting career of any substance and only has 5 credits on imdb, two of which are music videos; thus, I wouldn't give much credence to her stories. I suspect they tried some dialogue and she was terrible. Cathy Lee Crosby was no great shakes; but, physically, she looked more athletic (and she had been an athlete).

Thin, yes, but she does seem to resemble Marston's Golden Age version

Apropos of not much...Am I the only one who finds it annoying that everyone just assumes that you will know what their stupid acronym means? I was like, what the Hell is a Motu? Then I found out and didn't care.

I experience similar frustrating things while watching NCIS. Am I expected to know every naval acronym?
The worst one for me is GSW - which is gunshot wound. Both GSW and gunshot wound have three syllables, so it’d be just as easy for the NCIS agents to mention a “gunshot wound”.

Then I found out and didn't care. You didn’t care? MOTU (Masters of the Universe for anyone who doesn’t know) is only the fifth greatest action figure line in history, which has been scientifically proven. For anyone interested in the science, these are the top 5 action figure lines in history: 1) Kenner’s Super Powers 2) Mattel’s Secret Wars 3) Kenner’s M.A.S.K. 4) Hasbro’s G.I. Joe 5) Mattel’s Masters of the Universe

Transformers is sixth on my list. Followed by… #7 - WWF (Hasbro) #8 - WCW (Galoob) #9 - Thundercats (LJN) #10 - The Real Ghostbusters (Kenner) All scientifically proven of course! (The truth is, my list will change depending on my mood - it’ll be as chaotic and random as I am. I mean, surely I’ve got to fit Galoob’s Defenders of the Earth in here, too?) All joking aside, if I was assembling a list, I’m pretty sure Kenner’s Super Powers would make #1.

Both GSW and gunshot wound have three syllables, so it’d be just as easy for the NCIS agents to mention a “gunshot wound”. The pedant in me requires me to point out that NCIS and GSW are not acronyms; they are initialisms. An acronym is an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word, such as ASCII or NASA. Some, like radar and scuba become standard words. An abbreviation consisting of initial letters pronounced separately, like NCIS or GSW. It is possible for something to be treated as either an acronym or an initialism if pronunciation is not standardised; e.g. SQL. Some people say 'sequel' (an acronym) and others 'es-cue-el' (an initialism).
But as someone whose job involves a lot of acronyms and initialisms, I can say that the usage is accurate. Initialisms such as GSW arise not because they are easier to say, but because they are quicker to write. It then becomes standard to say the initialism in conversation.

You are also expected to understand the terms: Head, scuttlebutt, dogs, bos'un (boatswain), coxswain, the difference between a hatch and a door, what time 8 Bells is, how to render honors to a dignitary on the Quarterdeck, where the Quarterdeck is, what a bilge is, and coordinate a Port and Starboard Watch Rotation in a two-man life raft. You should also be able to "turn to." When I was in the US Navy, it was just called The Naval Investigative Service. It was kind of assumed they were investigating criminal matters. Leave it to the military to overdo it. What's really sad is that even 30 years after I left the Navy, I can still recite several routine 1MC (PA system) announcements: "Sweepers, sweepers; man your brooms. Give the ship a clean sweep, down fore and aft. Sweep out all lower decks ladder wells and passageways. Now sweepers!" "There are men working aloft onboard the USS John H Smith. Do not rotate, radiate or activate any electronic equipment while men are working aloft." Oh, and you must be able to locate the Sea Bat, stand a keen mail Buoy Watch, be able to obtain Relative Bearing Grease, and bring back a bucket of steam, from Engineering.

ps Head=toilet/bathroom Scuttlebutt=water fountain Dogs are the clamps that lock down a watertight door. A Bo'sun is in charge of deck equipment, particularly those related to mooring and the surface of the ship, which means lots of chipping and painting. A coxswain is in charge of a small boat and steers it. A Door separates Compartments and a Hatch separates Decks. 8 Bells- 4:00 am, 8:00 am, 12 Noon, Various dignitaries receive a certain number of bells rung to render honors, as well as piping on the Bo'sun's whistle. 4 bells for the captain of the ship, 6 bells for lower admirals, 8 for Vice Admiral and above. 6 bells for an ambassador. The Quarterdeck is the point of entry to and from the ship, in port, where the Officer of the Deck maintains the watch, along with the Petty Officer of the Watch and the Ship's Messenger. The Officer of the Deck gives permission to come aboard or depart the ship. A Bilge is the lowest portion of the ship, at the keel. Traditionally a collection point for water and waste oil, as well as rats. Pumping the bilges, removes liquid waste. Turn to-commence work Port & Starboard Watch-2-section watch rotation, one of, one on (usually 6 hours). A two-man life raft holds two people, there fore, in a Port & Starboard Watch, one is on duty and one off. The phrase is an insult about someone's capabilities: "Couldn't coordinate a Port & Starboard Watch in a 2-man life raft."
In regards to the last bit; there are time-honored "hazing" rituals on board ship, which do not involve physically abusing someone. These are all tests of gullability and are frequently tried with brand new sailors, reporting to their first ship and midshipmen. One is to try to locate the Sea Bat. The idea is to get someone to bend down and look under something, then swat them in the behind with a broom. Not to common after the mid-80s. The next is to tell someone they have the Mail Buoy Watch and to keep a sharp look out, so we don't miss our mail. There is no such thing. Mail is transferred on, in port, or from another vessel, at sea. A Relative Bearing needs no lubrication, is is a map bearing, relative to the position of the ship. If you sight a vessel, as a lookout, you give it's bearing, relative to the bow of the ship and approximate distance. If you can't figure out why obtaining a bucket of steam is pretty much impossible, well then I can't help you.
Then, there is the whole Shellback Initiation, when you cross the Equator, which is a whole 'nother topic.
