Tell me the Getty Museum in LA doesn't look like it was design by Steve Ditko. Yes! Or a Kirby weapon from above.

Tell me the Getty Museum in LA doesn't look like it was design by Steve Ditko. Probably designed to keep those pesky skateboarders from the Guggenheim away from them.

I recently got the itch to read this: Am I the only one who thinks that Gold is a real oddball choice of a guest star? It's not like Gold was the "break-out" character of the Metal Men, he wasn't a character that might have really caught on if he got some exposure teaming up with the World's Finest. Of all the Metal Men, he was the one with the very least of what passed for personality on the team! Why in the world...? The story itself ranks up there with the most ridiculous of Bob Haney fever dreams, and as I read it, it struck me that Gold could have easily been swapped out with Metamorpho, who had had two appearances with Superman and Batman during this run. It seems possible that this was originally written as another Metamorpho guest appearance, which would have made a little more sense (several of Gold's moves in this issue, such as turning himself into a unicycle, seem more consistent with his power's than with the Metal Men's, or were ones--like the unicycle--that Rex had already pulled). But I can't imagine any editorial pressure to swap the Element Man for Gold; Bob Haney seemed to be the only person interested in using Metamorpho around that time, so a Metamorpho appearance shouldn't have interfered with plans in other comics.

Will be looking for that, thanks. Not the greatest cover design, I must say - especially when you consider the choice of images they had available from the work itself.

This may be of interest to some folks (especially if they live in Sioux Falls)--an estate sale listing for Hagar the Horrible cartoonist Chris Browne. www.estatesales.net/SD/Sioux-Falls/57105/3881793As you scroll through the pictures, it goes back and forth from "That's neat!" to "What th-?" (I think he may have been a bit of a hoarder)

There was a collection of Outland, in Europe, where the rights issues were different.

I guess folks can do what they want with their money, but.... I don't know how to finish this sentence.
If I can find it, I'll share the closest thing I have to one of these.

I wonder what the 6 issues of Heavy Metal with Outland would cost. 51-56 This book was scanned and then printed, so that diminishes the original.

Not that much, pre-COVID, as I got my hands on most of them for a few bucks apiece, for the Cody Starbuck stories. Now, that was probably early(ish) 2000s, before the internet turned everyone delusional and people started charging auction prices everywhere. Still, not as much as you would think for Steranko. In fact, on the whole, most issues I sought of Heavy Metal were pretty reasonable, compared to an average X-Men from the Byrne or Cockrum era.

I wonder what the 6 issues of Heavy Metal with Outland would cost. 51-56 This book was scanned and then printed, so that diminishes the original. Roughly 10-20 bucks apiece from sane dealers (not ebay), but can sometimes be found cheaper in antique malls, the dusty, ratty mag section of some comic shops, etc. The most expensive issues in the series may be V5 #5 (53) and V5 #6 (54), primarily due to the 1st and 2nd appearances of Taarna in the magazine. The 2nd appearance is primarily cover-only, but it is the same image used in the film poster, so it's a classic cover-only collectible.
By the way, it's issues 51-55, and then the final chapter is not published until issue #58 (V5 #10). Issues 56-57 do not have Outland chapters.

I hope you're not implying that Stefano missed a deadline 😁
