These two also had text stories by Alan Moore. "The Gun" (in Batman Annual, 1985, UK; illustrated by Garry Leach) "I was Superman's Double" (in Superman Annual, 1985, UK; illustrated by Bob Wakelin) He also wrote "Protected Species" (Superman story in The Superheroes Annual, 1984; illustrated by Bryan Talbot) I'm unsure whether they've ever been reprinted.

I must track down “I Was Superman’s Double”. Who can resist a story title like that, eh?

I went to a Junji Ito art exhibition today. The guy is an absolute genius! It was a pleasure seeing his original artwork, sketches and paintings. LOVE Junji Ito! Normally horror stuff is not my thing, but he is a huge influence on my daughter who's an art student as well. She had me read his stuff, and you are so right, absolute genius indeed. Congrats on getting to see this exhibition, would love to have seen that as well! There's a movie coming out. With luck this will mess with all of our brains. Uzumaki Anime

So I'm digging through some stuff (as one does) and I discover that for three issues in 1944-45 MLJ publishes a book called Laugh Comix. This was a continuation of Tip-Top Laugh (which was a continuation of Tip-Top Comics). Now the indicia is "Laugh Comics" but as you can see it's Comix on the cover. The Laugh Comics most of us would know that lasted into the 80s is a separate book that started in 1946. As best I can tell this is the first use of Comix on an actual comic book. But I'd been led to believe for years that that phrase was coined by R. Crumb. Anyone have any thoughts? And where is Marty when I need him?

I was preparing something for the heavy metal thread and ran across this picture, I thought it might be interesting to post here as well. Megadeth front man and guitarist Dave Mustaine in the mid-80's showing off his latest issue of the Punisher mini.

I guess I better dig out my 1970's picture of Billy Gibbons with his latest issue of Archie's Pals 'n' Gals...

Wait... that's not you? Truth be told, there is a fairly strong resemblance to late 80's Supercat! What I’d now like to see is a picture of the Punisher holding a Megadeth magazine. That seems SO appropriate!

UK comic on-sale dates are sometimes hard to ascertain, but at some point 70 years ago (in September at least), the first issue of Tiger was published: It ran for 31 years. It merged with a title or two. I do see back issues of this (mainly the annuals) in charity shops and at jumble sales. Sports comics were so ubiquitous in the UK at one point, but I don’t know if there is even one sports comic now, reprints aside.

September 11, 1954 (a Saturday) would have been the 'week ending' date, or the latest day it would have been on sale. It would have gone on sale on Tuesday, the 7th.

This really has nothing to do with comics... but about 3 weeks ago, I lost my job of 22 1/2 years. Laid off in a "Reduction in Force", as they call it. Really sucks. I have gone through 3 rounds of interviews at one place, but I haven't heard anything yet. Keep me in your thoughts.

I appreciate interviews can be soul-destroying, but best wishes with any endeavours in that area.

Done. Here's hoping that you'll land something even better. When one door closes, another one opens.
