This really has nothing to do with comics... but about 3 weeks ago, I lost my job of 22 1/2 years. Laid off in a "Reduction in Force", as they call it. Really sucks. I have gone through 3 rounds of interviews at one place, but I haven't heard anything yet. Keep me in your thoughts. Been there. Pushed out after 20 years, while the company thinned ranks in preparation to sell out. Hope your prospects go well; I ran into more than a little age discrimination. I would also caution about leaping into a situation that may not be right, just to have a job. I picked up one that was more money, pretty quickly, but my stress levels went through the roof, between too many bosses, with different agendas, questionable business practices and a place where no one seemed to want to deal with customers. I finally had all I could take and quit, without another job lined up. It all worked out, but it took time.

“Reduction in Force” is a horrible euphemism. As is downsizing. When did plain English cease being a thing? Just say you’re “making people redundant” or “firing them”. Do they think “Reduction in Force” will make people feel better?

Do they think “Reduction in Force” will make people feel better? Especially when they casually throw around the acronym RIF, as if that makes it even more palatable.

It is horrible language, and I detested it back when I worked in a corporate environment.
“Efficiency savings” was the buzzword during meetings whenever the topic of letting people go was raised. I called it out. Others did, too. We had no time for it. I have no time for that kind of terminology. If you’re gonna get rid of people - for a valid or unfair reason - have the guts to use the proper terminology. These are people’s lives. “Efficiency savings” and the one you mentioned isn’t fooling anyone.

Especially when they casually throw around the acronym RIF, as if that makes it even more palatable. Oh, geez. That just gave me unpleasant flashbacks. My first and only job in corporate America was a low-level position in a mid-sized software design company in the very early 1990s. About a little over a year into my job, it merged with (actually acquired) a competing firm, so a pretty extensive 'reduction in force' followed. My own job survived, but in the weeks that followed that awful acronym became a verb, as in "Oh, man, Bob and Jim in tech support both got riffed." Employee morale tanked needless to say. (I left that job, and the country, a little less than a year later.) Anyway, best wishes to you going forward.

On sale 25 years ago today: I haven’t read this one. I must rectify that. Has anyone read this? I bought this when it came out, and re-read it not too long ago. I think it's pretty good. It doesn't really fit into any particular continuity for either character, but creates a new one where they can both co-exist for the sake of this story. There was a Superman/Tarzan crossover around the same time, but it veered too much into Elseworlds territory, and changed the characters too much for my liking
