I was today years old when I learned there was a DC villain that was a color swapped Dr. Fate called Dr. Chaos... When you think about it, Dr Chaos ought to have been a much bigger gun back in the day, rather than a one-shot Superboy villain.

Agh....no Alex Raymond? Bud Sagendorf? Roy Crane? VT Hamlin?
The Ham Fisher segment should have pulled back when you see the hands drawing Joe Palooka and reveal one of the many ghosts he used. Would have been real interesting if they had brought Fisher and Capp together.

ps They kind of fail to mention the first attack on comics, when comic strips were targeted, a generation before comic books (I believe it was the 1920s, but can't seem to find a reference with the exact time period. I know The Ten-Cent Plague uses it as background detail.)

Would have been real interesting if they had brought Fisher and Capp together. Well, jeez, they can't do everyone--as it is it's a good dozen folks profiled. Also, a good reminder that there were content-free presentations before YouTube.

Did all those guys really wear ties at the drawing board? Seems a good way to get ink stains.

There's been a fascinating discussion of comic coloring going on on Twitter the last week or so as Jose Villarrubia talks about the restoration process he uses for certain collections and shows examples of other books he applied the process too on his own time. I know there is a lot of dislike of the modern recoloring of a lot of classic comics by some members of our community.
Here's an example tweet from Jose...
and an example of the conversation about it in a tweet form Kurt Busiek...
if you do the blue bird site, follow Jose for this fascinating discussion of the coloring process then and now.

I follow Jose on Facebook, where he has been posting about this for a while. I fall squarely on his side and think the modern recoloring is garish and is not "the same colors on better paper", as others argue. Look at this other post from Jose. I think there is no contest between his mock up and the printed Marvel reprint. But also, there is no way the original was 100% Magenta the way Marvel reprinted it. It's not the same colors on better paper.

Wow, Jose's restorations look *so much* better.
