The artwork is pretty fantastic, and I usually enjoy Azz's Batman and Constantine so I got the first issue and thought it was a pretty good read so I'll certainly be getting #2 but I doubt it will sell anywhere near as #1 unless it has something as salacious as the first appearance of Bruce's Batawang.

I didn't know Dr Thomas Wayne had a roving eye for the ladies.
Well maybe in the Damned Universe.
I'm thinking #2 will exceed the 115,000 print run for #1, based on the interest #1 has caused AND Harley Quinn, who's also red hot. I can only imagine her in this Damned equation, she's effectively the new Joker. A psychopath with fallopian tubes. Makes my day. Preorders were in and thus print run determined before #1 was released, so the interest in #1 will have zero effect on the print run or orders of #2 (or #3). The earliest you would see an adjustment on orders would be #4 as #2 and #3 are ordered before #1 hits the shelves. And since there is no #4 as it is a 3 issue mini, you won't see the buzz cause a bump in orders of future issues. Now it might provide a bump on orders for the trade sin the direct market, but overall the goal of the Black Label line is to create evergreen sellers in the book trade, sales of singles or trades in the direct market will help cover initial production costs but the real life of the book will be in the book trade over the next 10-15 years if it is to be a success. Many of the Black Label books will not even be released as singles first, but this book, with this creative team was released as singles to create buzz for the overall Black Label line and create a higher profile for it in the long term. The initial sales of this are nice, but the marketing it is providing for the Black Label line as a whole is what interests DC/WB more about this project. -M

Thing is, the print runs were determined by initial orders, not advanced reorders. Advanced reorders come out of any overprint DC decides to make or that Diamond requests to cover damages and reorders, but advanced reorders won't increase the print run because the books are already at the printer and in process. If it is a book they anticipate reorders on, then there mifght be a slightly larger overprint, if not, then you will see a second printing rushed out. The initial print run though is already established before #1 hit the shelves. -M

I saw a video on youtube and the guy (who works in a comic store) said DC not only recalled it, but gave a warning that stores that continue to sell it can be fined. Can anyone vouch for that?
Under what authority would they "fine" them?

Kind of hard to recall something that is allegedly sold out at the retailer level. If they were going to recall it, it would have had to have been before Diamond distributed it or before it was shipped to Diamond.
The only official word DC has said of any sort regarding this is that future printings and digital copies will be pixelated/blocked out to caver up the nudity. Nothing has been said about existing copies.
It sounds a lot like someone trying to drum up panic trying to inflate already inflated prices for copies.
The only reference I saw to a recall was a youtuber with the handle nerdscum, which is a name that certainly engenders trust and a sense of rational discourse.

I had it on my pull, but I haven;t been to my shop since it came out, so I have no idea if there is a copy waiting for me or not. If there is, great, if not, I will read it when it goes to trade, No worries.

Art looks nice (certainly better than the typical digital piss), but no, not a fan of grimdark stuff. I'll pass.

DC Black Label, where creators are free to express themselves however they want! (unless someone complains, then we'll censor everything)

DC Black Label, where creators are free to express themselves however they want! (unless someone complains, then we'll censor everything) What I find funny is that a penis is too abhorrent to depict, but hardcore ultraviolence and gore (presumably) will get full rein. There is something seriously wrong with that mindset.

DC has put out a notice that Batman Damned #1 will not be reprinted 'at this time'. #2 has been pushed back a couple weeks as well.
Well except in the hardcover collection, then the softcover collection, then the deluxe hardcover edition, then in an Absolute, then in a... it will be reprinted several times over the years, my guess is it will stay in print for some time, just not as a periodical edition, but then that was the plan all along. The periodical edition is just marketing and hype for the format the book was intended for all along. -M

Not only literal/physical sexuality, but verbal and psychological sexuality as well (even more so, that's a big one). That's why often you have 2 leads, both attractive physically (pretty faces, six packs etc), but people say there is no chemistry on the screen/page. No attraction, no magnetism, it comes out sterile.
(Lack of) mental violence is often overcompensated with physical violence as well.
So when you substitute all of the above with pure physical violence that's what you got. Ugly enough, all the ultra-violence is often not-consequential, too unpleasant.

A #1 first print was still in my file folder at my lcs when I stopped in today, which they would have sold to me at cover, but I asked them if they could make more selling to someone else if I passed on it since I was debating waiting on the trade to begin with, and they said oh yeah, so I let them have it, and they had sold it for about 5x cover by the time I had left the shop. The owners are con friends of mine, so I didn't mine doing them a solid. They are going to give me first crack at any promo material they get for the Conan launch as a thank you, so it will work out for me too.
