Great photos. I'm surprised to learn that there were so few actual comics dealers at such a big show, but you scored some good deals there - esp. the JLA book with the lovely Neal Adams cover, I used to have that one myself way back when.
The cosplayers are indeed really impressive - even at the very modest comics and SF conventions we have here in Zagreb, a bunch of them show up and I can't help but be impressed with the effort they often put into making their costumes and, if necessary, the added props. And speaking of Harley, a few years back one woman dressed up as the earlier, cartoon version of the character, complete with the giant hammer. It was pretty amazing. Anyway, I really like the tiny little green hat the Riddler Girl is wearing...

There were other Harley Quinns with the classic costume. Some really impressive costumes were in attendance yesterday but I was a bit shy to keep bothering people.

I looked for Marv Wolfman , who was supposed to be there but there was a sign saying he would be back after 1pm. I returned later in the day but never saw him. I had Fantastic Four # 212 , 213 which had a great Galactus tale that Introduces Terrax and a great fight between the big " G" and the Sphinx. Alas, it was not to be... Anyway, I went back upstairs to see if I could score some more comics. There wasn't much to choose from so I decided to get some books from up and coming comic creators. The First one I picked the up was a book called Blood Realm from Robert Geronimo
Signed and all for 2 bucks

I passed this booth a few times before deciding to see what this was all about. The Tap Dance Killer? What great name. I talked to the writer Ted Sikora and looked through his books. I was amazed at the art inside. The artist is from Spain and his work looks like John Buscema reincarnated I'm not kidding. I bought a TPB collecting his book called Apama and 3 other books including Tap Dance Killer # 1 and 2 for 30 dollars. The creator Ted Sikora and ICC. That's a great TDK cover in the background. This is artist Benito Gellego. Looks so much like big John.

Next was Joe Staton long time pro who co created E-man along with doing art for the big two for over 40 years. It made me a bit sad that he asked for a donation afterwards. I figured he wasn't anyone that was paid to appear and maybe he needed to make ends meet. I threw a few bucks in a jar that he had on his table. When I saw him in Akron a couple years ago, I don't recall him charging for autographs. He was selling floppies collecting storylines of his Tracy strips and was pretty busy doing sketches + he was a featured guest, so I imagine his expenses were covered. NYC is a different story if he's got to cover his own expenses, esp if he stayed in town and didn't drive back and forth from home.
I haven't been to a NYC con--or any really huge one--since the mid-90s, when they were still pretty much mom&pop operations. To get me to go, they'd probably have to get non-mainstream guests (e.g., Kim Deitch) (or start bringing people back from the dead).

I definitely am more comic book-centric than movies and costumes, a con like that would be overwhelming. There used to be a reduced or free admission for coming in costume, but no lack of people into that now. Maybe I better get sewing while I am still able to wear a Dark Phoenix outfit without looking a prat? I can't decide if bow tie and white jacket guy is Matt Smith Doctor Who or Sean Connery 007. I'm probably wrong with both guesses. I have to admit I was overwhelmed a few times. The guy with the bow tie went along with the other 3 as a set. Maybe a cartoon show on adult swim ?

Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention: whatever the circumstances, I'm rather envious that you got Staton to sign a book. He's one of my favorites, and I love E-man in particular (I had my copies of the 10-issue original Charlton run bound).
