Orville 2nd Season InformationThe Orville Season 2 Release DateThe Orville Season 2 premiere will be happening on Sunday, December 30 at 8/7c after an NFL double header and then will return to its Thursday time slot at 9/8c on January 3, 2019. The second season will have at least 14 episodes, though. "I’d rather do fewer episodes and have them be better content-wise than do 22 and have them be filler," MacFarlane is quoted as saying by TVGuide.com. I missed the first half of Season 1, and I regret that immensely and watched the last 3-5 shows and was hooked and the series will resume on the 30th of December and looking forward to it. I'm new to this show and I would like to have this show to be have another season or two and have a nice fanbase to make it a successful show to boot. Brent Spiner and Jason Alexander - Star Trek and Seinfeld veterans will have cameo appearances in the 2nd Season.

This show is more like Star Trek than actual Star Trek these days.
I dug most of the first season.

Generally not a fan of Seth MacFarlane but I am very much looking forward to this. I feel the same way. Not a Seth MacFarlane fan but this show was a nice homage to the various Star Trek TV series. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I am looking forward to this season.

The show still seems indecisive as to whether it's a parody or a light-hearted, but legitimate heir to the genre. I think we are all rooting for the latter. Let's hope we see more of that in season two.

I think he is paying homage to the various series' but also injecting some humor into it.

No doubt, but that still aligns with my perception that he can't decide whether to lovingly poke fun at the genre or lovingly explore it while dispensing wise-cracks at the same time. We saw three episodes in Season One that came close to seriously exploring a deep concept, but none of those episodes took the issue as far as Trek would have. It's still a little too Star Trek-Lite for my taste, though I definitely see the potential and am rooting the series on into Season 2.

I chalked it up to it being the first season. Hopefully you are right. Usually these quirks get ironed out by the second season. Another positive he only committed to 14 episodes instead of 22 to try avoid "filler" episodes. Too many shows are guilty of this... stretching ideas good enough for 16 episodes to fill 22 episodes.

This is why my wife and I love "The Good Place". They do 13-14 episodes per season, and each one progresses the story along with no filler episodes. Not every one is earth-shattering and some are quieter and more character-driven but there is something in each that is important down the road.

I never expected to enjoy that show, but it is BRILLIANT, and their constant willingness to disrupt the very premise(s) of the show is extremely bold and (somehow) always successful.

As far as legitimate heir to the genre -- absolutely and that's drove me into this show in the last half of Season One and I regretted missing the first half. This show is very refreshing and they added Jason Alexander and Brent Spiner to the ranks of cameo appearances and that's going to help them greatly. I consider this show more like Star Trek -- with an different atmosphere that this crew to me it is an virtual unknown to me and this gave me a smile on my face when I see it. This show has great visual feel, the sets are fantastic, and most of all the pace of this show is superb.

The first show of the 2nd Season started out a bag of mixed feelings and I was a tad disappointed in it. But, I hope it would be a good one; but the next show on Thursday Night and I hope it will turn around by then. It was written good; but the acting and drama wasn't there.
The sets were impressive and I just wished it was the first show of this season was a tad bit better.

I thought it was among the better episodes of the series thus far.

I had mixed feelings as well with the first episode. I liked the stuff with the doctor. Bortus' story felt a bit over the top. And the humor felt a bit forced. But least season it was a bit uneven but overall it was pretty good.

@bert -- Character Building, good point there and I can see where you are coming at.
