Buy a bunch of Marvel Epic Collections and give them a thorough read.
Especially the silver age Daredevils and Avengers.
Don't really need to pick up any more floppies. (Fingers crossed)

One publisher I really enjoyed in 2018 was Archie. Both the new material and reading collections from the 40's & 50's. I want to continue to pick up their older stuff. Both the gang from Riverdale and the MLJ superheroes. Working on this one right now. Reading:

I've gotten through L alphabetically on floppies so far in 2018, and need to finish the rest and then do trades in 2019 so that I am 99.9% certain of what I own and need and can find/access it easily moving forward. -M With the first quarter of 2019 drawing to a close, time to do a quick status check.. Am now working on magazines, trades and prose paperbacks. So good progress so far in the first quarter of 2019. I like to get off to a good start as I know I always hit a lull at some point during the year, and so far so good. -M

Okay, I will continue my trend and try to pick five goals. 1. Finish my run of ASM from 100-400. Currently missing about ten issues, one of which is #129. The rest are much later. I doubt I acquire a 129 but to get everything else would be nice☺️ 2. Read more. This year was a great year in terms of accumulating a ton of great books. This year the focus will be slightly less on buying and more on reading. 3. Add at least five golden age comics. I own three currently and want more. Horror titles have skyrocketed but war and westerns seem doable and there are some gorgeous covers out there. 4. More twenty cent Batman stuff. Be it Detective issues or Batman, I want to add more of these issues because I love the covers from that time period. 5. Continue to collect on a budget. This past year I spent about $90 a month on comics. I sold a lot but also bought a lot and it averaged out to around $2 a book which is great considering some of the stuff I added to the collection. This year I want to see how much better I can do at selling and flipping comics. With three long boxes of stuff to purge, I will set my sights there and continue to try and move stuff along so I can buy stuff I want. Updates! 1. I have acquired a few ASM issues. #108, 113 and 214 were missing but now part of the collection. Few more left to track down! 2. Ha! Who knew a one year old would take up so much time? Reading may have to wait until hes in college lol. He appreciates looking at covers but if I take them outta the bag he wants to shred them. Luckily I have given him a few sacrificial lamb comics to keep him happy:) 3. Well this goal might as well switch to "add 5 LB Cole comics". So far 2 have come my way, with a third close to being acquired. I also scored a Black Magic issue from the early fifties so this goal is nearly complete 4. Have a stack of Bat books coming in. A few 20 centers in the lot, the rest will be sold. 5. So far so good. I am averaging between $2-3 a book after I have sold extras/doubles/stuff I dont want. Plus, I have been making a small dent in some of the stuff in my to sell boxes. Hoping in the summer to take part in a local small comic/game/pop culture convention and sell of even more stuff.

Okay, okay... Buying Goals- Buy no more than 100 books this year. I have 2,927 unread books in my collection and should probably avoid adding to that. I did a good job of that in 2018! Reading Goals I'm serious about meeting- Read at least six non-comic related novels (I'm feeling Dickens, Hugo, Austin, and Tolkein at the moment, but we'll see where 2019 takes me). - Finish my Avengers run (#201-300, plus annuals remaining) - Get through more of my Savage Sword of Conan run (26 issues remaining) - Finish Frank Miller's Daredevil Completed 1/8/19Reading Goals I want to get to before I die (maybe this year. Who knows?)- Kirby/Lee's Fantastic Four - Byrne's Fantastic Four - Ditko's Spider-Man - Grimjack - Astro City - Sandman Mystery Theatre - Dreadstar - Re-read Gaiman's Sandman from beginning to end - Get caught up with The Cerebus Reading SocietyEssential Reviewing Goals- Finish Teen Titans from the Beginning Completed 3/21/19- Finish Batman Family: 1975-1980- Start a New Teen Titans from the Beginning review thread once the above threads are completed Completed 3/28/19- Seriously consider finally get around to doing a Claremont's X-Men review thread. I've only been considering doing this since 2002, but writing it in parallel with a New Teen Titans thread sounds crazy fun! Other Reviews I intend to dabble in this year, but likely not devote too much time to: - Atari Force. 11 issues left. - Superman in the Post-Crisis Era. - Get caught up on Planet of the Apes from the Beginning. I'm a year behind. - Restore Writer's Spotlight: Doug Moench. Many of the images are still hosted at Photobucket Completed 2/21/19- The Complete Batman: 1979-2011- Restore Justice League in the Post-Crisis Era. The images are still hosted at Photobucket - Nick Fury in the Silver AgeWay ahead of schedule on my review goals, but my reading goals are languishing. I really haven't read very much at all. Then again, my life was pure insanity up until about a week ago, so I have to give myself a little slack. As for the non-comic related novels, I'm about 1/10th into David Copperfield and a few chapters into Pride and Prejudice. Really not far at all. And I've bought less than ten comics this year, so I'm doing fine in that respect.

Thanks shaxper, I did find some nice treasures. Most of my big collecting days are behind me now for the most part. I no longer really feel the "need/thrill" for filling in collections to just sit in a box. The fun now is for seeking out hidden gems or missed opportunities from my youth. During high school it was ROM and Micronauts and Star Wars which captured my imagination. Star Wars I had all of the run and sold off for a decent amount of change (nice down payment on a vehicle) years ago and have replaced via the Dark Horse TPB collection. I did the same with Micronauts and ROM years ago (sell when they are in demand and HOT items, don't hold on and wait/hope for more $$) and around 5 years ago I managed to rebuild the Micronauts singularly with winning a LCS lottery for a complete original run and then tracked down the Direct market run through a couple of LCS dollar bins. ROM has been the more difficult series as I think people have held on to it more than the others out of the Mantlo and Buscema start and the end with Ditko. You can find higher end issues for bigger bucks since all the sellers want/expect more reward for selling their "beloved" series and additionally there is no reprint or TPB's around to help lower the prices. The same LCS I bought the 20 for $10 bag also puts issues up for sale from private owners and they have had issues ranging from $6-15 and issue which I wouldn't pay. I am quite happy with every issue I have ever repurchased of ROM as being only $1-2 at most. Growing up in the 70's I saw tons of Westerns and War comics but never really bought them as I was a bigger science-fiction and fantasy addict in addition to the heroes. Now I wish that I had bought more of them. Now I am finding that these types of older comic books provide much more entertainment and pleasure to me than any of the modern stuff. So digging around the #1 boxes or grabbing up packaged goods of 5-10 issues for $5-10 i a great value and reminds me of those golden days of youth. The DC dollar runs are truly fun as you get so much story and art in those books with a variety of war time stories. Gimme a box full of War and Westerns with yellow fading pages, torn covers and creases with a big glass of Kool-Aid while sitting in the back yard, smelling the fresh cut grass with the sprinkler going so a cool breeze blows across me while listening to an oldies radio station and I am once more a smiling happy little camper!

I've gotten through L alphabetically on floppies so far in 2018, and need to finish the rest and then do trades in 2019 so that I am 99.9% certain of what I own and need and can find/access it easily moving forward. -M so goal #1, to read 15 series of 12 issues or less, I am 2/3 of the way there, having read 10. goal #2 I am also 2/3 of the way there, as I wanted to read at least 3 series of between 12 and 100 issues, and I got 2 read so far. goal #3 was to read 1 completed series or run of 100+ issues, and I am no where near that one, as I haven't even really started on such a series except for a handful of issues of SSOC. goal #4 was to read 25 trades or OGN, I have read 52 so far, so more than doubled the goal for the year so far. goal #5 was to read 12 novels, short story collections or non-fiction books this year, and so far I have read 15, so already surpassed the goal. So for reading goals, I am doing well with one exception, having already met or being on pace for all but 1. the rest were acquisition goals goal #6 was to complete at least 10 of the listed series that I only needed a small number of issues each, and I have completed 12 of those series, so surpassed the minimum goal. goal #7 was to complete at least 2 of the 10 series listed that needed substantially more issues of, and though I have made progress on all but one of those series, I have not completed any of them. goal #8 was to add at least 3 vintage toy pieces to the collection, and I have added exactly three so far-a vintage Mego Tarzan, a vintage Mego Dr. Zarkov, and a Mego Micronauts Hydra. So as far as acquisition goals go, I have competed two and made progress on the third. The last goal, #9 was an organizational goal. I've made progress, finished going through all the floppies and got them rebagged, organized, and filed. Have gone through most of the Marvel and DC trades (still need to do indies). The basement is mostly done (I need to get another 2-3 drawer file cabinet but other than that it's done) and I am about to restart on the attic room. My work is now is closed through the 4th, so I have 5 days off in a row and I hope to get some of the painting done up there done over that period before moving on to building shelves/storage units up there, so again making progress and on pace to have a chance to complete the set goals. So all in all, fairly satisfied with my progress on my resolutions/goals for the year so far. If the year ended today, I wouldn't be too disappointed at my progress, and I have six month to go to get more accomplished. -M

Very inspiring thread. Have been a comic collector/hoarder all of my life, with a few periods of very little reading. Have been trying to focus on reading more the last couple years, and checklists and resolutions have always been a big part of my OCD-addled life.
One thing I started last year, but don’t think I’ve shared here yet, is a goal to help me actually read the sunsets of the hobby that I collect or spend money on, instead of just buying stuff and never using it. So I’ve made a list of all those areas, and try to read at least one item per month from each. I subscribe to Comixology Unlimited and DC Unlimited, so those two services are in my list. I have bought groupees and humble bundles of comics, so have them on the list so I don’t forget about them. Collect digests and 100-pagers, so those are on the list. I have a couple different genres on the list, a few formats, and several companies. The list forces me to be varied and not get stuck on one type of book, and possibly burn-out.

We're at the midway point of the year, so let's see how things are going: I've been taking part in this tradition the past few years and thought there was no reason to discontinue it, so here we go: Buying GoalsPick up a copy of Daredevil #65, which will complete my run on the series. Got this book on May 11. Done. That's it. I may pick up some other books throughout the year (I'm partial to cheap Silver Age and early Bronze Age Marvel, especially Hulk and Sub-Mariner issues, and I'd be fine if I could get some pre-Crisis Flash), but that's the only book I'm focused on buying in 2019. Anything else is just gravy. I've done a little of this. Picked up a few of the remaining What Ifs I don't own, three pre-Crisis Flash issues, some 80's Suicide Squad and Firestorm books, but that's about it aside from some random $1 books here and there. Reading GoalsRead at least 1,000 stories from my collection that I've never read before. I used that term because I have a number of collected editions that I bought previously that have been sitting unread on my bookcase. However, I'm not going to keep track of them in the Reading Club thread, because then it seems like homework and I tend to lose interest in it, so I'd like it to be more casual than that. Through today, I've read 537 stories, with over 90% of them being new reads. I am keeping track of them in the Reading Club thread, because it helps me focus.Reviewing GoalsPost at least 26 new reviews in my Captain America thread. That works out to one every two weeks, which should be doable. This should have been doable, but here we are on June 30 and I haven't posted one yet. Revising this down to 13, which still works out to 1 every two weeks. Just need to buckle down and do them, but life seems to take up a lot of free time. Those are all the resolutions I'm committing to trying to accomplish. Anything beyond that would just put unnecessary pressure on me and cause me to lose focus on what I actually want to do in 2019.

I really really really haven't followed my resolutions at all this year. I'm getting close to that number, with all the Archie books I've bought for my daughter and I to read, but I don't think I've exceeded it. I think I'll still get to most these, but they have not been my focus yet this year. The six novels bit was ambitious, though. I am spending most of my free time with my girlfriend these days, so I'm doing a lot less reading than I'd like to be, but for very good reasons Kirby's Fantastic Four is where I've ended up committing most of my limited reading time. Wrapping up volume three of the Masterworks volumes at this point. Lost interest in Batman Family, likely abandoning New Teen Titans, and definitely not doing the X-Men review thread. I'm actually having fun getting back to some of these. I've already returned to Batman, Superman, and Planet of the Apes. I'd like to get back to Doug Moench soon.
