My friend Jeff told me about this and he had the same reaction as you and this got to be the most idiotic move on Marvel's part and I totally think this is absurd.

My Marvel died pretty much about 20 years ago though it was sputtering for a good 5 years or so before that.
I hardly read it or have any interest in it anymore and I'm starting to feel more that way about DC too, which I never thought would happen.
Maybe I'm just getting old.

I thought you were talking about this... The comic you are showing is a tie in to Avengers No Road Home which deals with time travel and the Scarlet Witch getting stuck in the Hyborian Age (which is once again part of the Marvel past as it was when Marvel had the license in the 70s-80s) and is more time travel hijinks for a cross-over than Conan joining the Avengers The Savage Avengers however, is a team featuring Conan, the Pubisher, Venom,Elektra and others with Conan stuck in the present for some reason or convoluted plot manipulations. -M Edit to add: I mean Marvel and Conan elements have been mixed and part of the same world since the Bronze Age-Shuma Gorath and Kulan Gath both faced Conan and the Marvel heroes, Mary Jane Watson was established as a descendant of Red Sonja in a Marvel Team Up story, if they are part of the same shared universe, and one where time travel exists, such a move is ultimately inevitable. This is the same impulse to tie everything together that comic fans usually applaud. I could care less about it, I am not reading it and it isn't impacting the actual Conan titles, so it doesn't impact me.

(...) Mary Jane Watson was established as a descendant of Red Sonja in a Marvel Team Up story (...) If you mean Marvel Team-up #79, nothing of the sort is stated or even implied in the story - MJ just happened to be close to Sonja's sword in a museum and was magically transformed into Sonja when she picked it up. (Just like the security guard turned into Kulan Gath when he picked up his amulet from a display case.) If MJ is currently considered a descendant of Red Sonja, that's something that was retconned later.

I believe it's from the Spider-Man Red Sonja mini that built on that MTU story saying MJ was drawn to the sword and was transformed because she was Sonja's descendant. Anyone else touching the sword would have had nothing happen to them. -M

It's been almost 10 years since I read it, so details are fuzzy, but the MJ Sonja connection keeps getting mentioned whenever the topic of Conan/Marvel Universe ties is brought up om just about every Conan or comic forum I have ever participated in. MTU 79 is included in the trade collection of that mini too. For me, I'd prefer the Hyborain Age to be its own thing with no connections to Marvel at all, but that's not what Marvel does, just about everything they have ever published original or licensed, with the exception of Star Wars and GI Joe and special imprints (Star Comics, Marvel Select, ICON, EPIC), has been woven into the MU as a whole from the 70s onward. ROM, Shogun Warriors, Transformers, Crystar, Micronauts, ad infinitum...it's just what they do. No one should be surprised by it at this point. -M

It’s just something that becomes a headache when they try to reprint it in another format. Battles over licenses and stuff have prevented books that combined Marvel characters with Rom, Doc Savage etc from being included in collections.

Cmon, Marvel. Not to mention, there's no way in ANY comic universe where Conan would beat those people that he's standing over.

When I go to the LCS on the rare occasions there is something in my pull list (currently 1 DC book, 1 indie book and 2 Marvel titles), I peruse the weekly releases and realize I have almost zero interest in any of them. And yeah, I believe a lot of it has to do with getting older. Something like a Conan crossover with the Avengers might have appealed to 25-year old me, but 45-year old me just shrugs his shoulders and walks away.

Good grief. Is there any Marvel character that isn't an Avenger anymore? Back when I followed the Avengers in the late 70s and 80s, it seemed like if a character made it into the Avengers, they were something truly special. But now, it's as if the entire Marvel universe is an Avenger.

It sorted of worked in that WHAT IF issue but Conan is going to be disappointed that the Avengers don't attack coastal cities and steal all their gold. I mean, he's basically a pirate and mercenary.
