I searched through the DC titles for something by Wrightson or Kaluta first, then I even went through Charlton's Ghostly Tales and Dr. Graves hoping for a great Ditko or Sutton (or Wrightson-esque Zeck)... no definite gargoyles for this contest sadly. Those early '70s DC are absolutely gorgeous, the coloring was usually very thoughtful compared to often garish Marvels, in fact Charltons were often better colored than many Marvels. It seems at Marvel that if Marie Severin didn't color it it's as likely to look like a bag of spilled M&Ms (as I believe John Byrne once described garish coloring he disliked).

Damn, I was sure there was a a Gene Day MoKF cover featuring a gargoyle or gargoyles but I seem to have been mistaken: lots of statues but nothing I can conscientiously call a gargoyle (which in my imagination, if not the dictionary definition, should be protruding from the side of a building). There was a posthumously published DC cover by Day that I think would qualify.

M.W. Gallaher(Still in the dark as to the theme. The fact there is a specific number of covers available is especially baffling. )
