CLASSIC COVER CONTEST 27 FEBRUARY - 5 MARCH: SláineI like Sláine, do you like Sláine? You all have to post covers with him on anyway. The Rules: - Post one, and only one, classic cover that fits the theme of the contest. - Cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume published before 1 February 2009. - Covers must be posted before voting begins. - Voting takes place on Tuesday, 5 March beginning at 12:01am PST and ending at 11:59pm PST. - Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most. - Put the name of your choice in bold. - The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends. - The winner chooses the theme for the next week's contest. - If you don't think the cover fits the theme, don't vote for it; please don't post disparaging remarks about it. - If a cover is more recent than the classic time frame, kindly point it out so that the poster can choose an alternate before voting begins. - And of course, have fun!! I have honestly never heard of this character or seen this comic. Obviously I will be doing some google research but perhaps someone can enlighten me on this character/series. First impression? Appears to be an amped up badass version of Conan. Definitely intrigued by some of these covers Inam seeing too. I will go with this.

Appears to be an amped up badass version of Conan. Definitely intrigued by some of these covers Inam seeing too. I will go with this. [img..] He is a character from 2000ad. Originally appeared in 80s, been in it since. Not familiar with Conan myself so no idea how they compare, but Sláine is barbarian whose stories are based on Celtic myth and legend. He is a follower of the earth goddess Danu, and he is gifted/cursed (depending how you look at it I suppose lol) through that the ability of Warp-Spasm, which distorts his mind and body but gives him heighten strength and power. He actually has a new saga starting soon in 2000ad comic which is why I picked him for this. but series wise, to get best idea I think would be to go with most recent saga that ended a little while ago. The Brutania Chronicles, where he battles Drune lords. Gives good insight to the character and world, and humour the script can have. Also personally think Simon Davis on the art is fantastic.

It's cool that we get to know a character that we're not familiar with.
