And now Paul Dano has been cast as the Riddler. And who mentioned the Riddler up-thread as a viable "big name" villain that hasn't been done to death? If anyone wants tonight's lottery numbers, PM me

If anyone wants tonight's lottery numbers, PM me Meh If you guys are expecting Crazy Quilt to make an appearance in a $200+ million Batman movie then odds are, you’re always going to be disappointed. I’ll take Paul Dano as Riddler all day, every day just based on his past work. Especially when compared to the only other cinematic version we’ve seen. A completely over the top, extraordinarily goofy Jim Carrey doing his most goofy and over the top Jim Carrey routine. Hell, as much as I loved Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, I’m beyond glad that it’s a stand-alone film and won’t be dug up time and time again and included in some Marvel-esque “connected universe”. Riddler done by a very talented actor like this definitely has potential. My hope is that they make Batman into the “greatest detective” as he was always meant to be and craft an awesome mystery/thriller while foregoing excessive action set pieces. It’s a bit of a long shot, but hopefully ‘Joker’ shows WB and DC that you can make an awesome comic book movie without having to ape the Marvel formula. EDIT: lol Just realized that you were actually in favor of a Riddler based Batman movie.

If the rumors are to be believed Batman will be rocking something close to the classic gray and blue look, which would be pretty awesome.

Matt Reeves dropped a Camera Test video which reveals the first look at the Battinson costume, as well as the first snippet of Michael Giacchino score:

It's not the best tease as details are hard to see, but I'm not super impressed. I like the collar to the cape, and the cowl looks good but the chest emblem is a bit of a turn off, especially if it's made out of the gun that killed his parents as its rumored.

And my interest has fallen to 1%. Yet another ugly “realistic” Batsuit with too many parts and textures. Whatever happened to the suit being patterned after the classic blue-&-gray costume?
As someone who genuinely loves Silver Age-Copper Age superhero comics, it’s disheartening that there hasn’t been a single superhero film made in the last decade which captures the spirit of those comics. Everything is homogenized or grim or “realistic”, and I’m sick to my stomach of it.

That looks more like a Batmobile design than a Bat-suit

Modern day audiences expect a bit more plausibility with superhero costumes; gone are the days when you could get away with a Reeve Superman outfit or West Batman costume. Its the reason the MCU's Captain America only used his original costume to be a costume in the stage show sequence from Captain America: The First Avenger, while the real costume was militaristic and believable. The same with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, which was highly influential on productions going forward with the chain-mail-like fabric of Spider-Man's costume, as it was thought it was not realistic to have a guy who engages in superpowered battles, or has bullets fired at him to do that in a body stocking. It makes sense for a non-superpowered human like Batman to protect himself as much as possible.

IMO, modern day audiences suffer from a narrowing of the imagination. I don't think the Raimi Spider-suit is at all comparable to the outfits that show up in the Nolanverse, MCU, DCEU, etc. It's a very faithful recreation of the suit from the comics; the minute textures in the fabric don't drastically alter the aesthetic. Frankly, I want a heavily Expressionist Batman film which portrays the character as borderline supernatural.

A new image from the set: And they've done other non armored looks other than Spider-Man that worked just fine, so I don't buy the "audience won't believe it line" Chris Evens for instance looked great in the first Avengers film and it looked pretty damn comics accurate:

A look at the new Batmobile: It's definitely a stripped down "realistic" look that we haven't seen before. I'm still not sure what I think.

Looks great in that the concept is it should be his 1st tinkering together of his ensemble of tools needed to battle crime. Especially, as the idea they are hoping to get across is that much if not ALL his original gadgets are self-made. He would of course have to keep it all stop secret hush hush or people would figure out rather quickly that something is going on with the rich guy buying up military grade materials! Stripped down, lean, mean and built for speed is the way to go since Bats has to get to places ASAP.
