As promised some months ago, it's time for Talos of the Wilderness Sea – Kidding! Actually, I've been toying around for a few themes for a good cover contest, but I chose one that kind of ties in to last week's 1975 theme, i.e., the mid-1970s and a really common feature of Marvel covers in that age of inflation: that blurb telling readers that their favorite comics had a price that was still only 25 cents! And then 35 cents! …And then the practice stopped after the price jumped from 40 to 50 cents… So this week, find a Marvel cover, any Marvel cover at all, that has one of these two bombastic price blurbs on it:
Here’s an example, one of the first of these comics I remember picking up:
(And yeah, I know DC covers of the earlier '70s had much more modest "still only 20 cents" blurbs, but that was before my time, and similar to DubipR's 1975 theme, I wanted to focus on specific period that coincided with my own earliest days of comics reading, when I became a Marvel zuvembie...)
The rules of the game: - Post one classic cover that fits the theme of the contest. - Cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume published before July 2009. - Covers must be posted before voting begins. - Voting takes place on Tuesday, July 9th, beginning at 12:01am PST and ending at 11:59 pm PST. - Vote by posting the name of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most. - Put your choice's name in bold. - The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period ends. - The winner chooses the theme for the next week's contest. - If you don't think the cover fits the theme, don't vote for it; please don't post disparaging remarks about it. - If a cover is more recent than the classic time frame, kindly point it out so that the poster can choose an alternate before voting begins. So have fun saving money on those still (!) cheap comics…

I was really enjoying Marvel's return the Golden Age at this time. There was no way my quarter was not going to be slapped down for this one!

This one was actually released with both the 25 and 30 cent cover prices.
