Did anyone say Captain Easy? I love what I've read of the old Roy Crane comic strips and would probably have voted for that over Captain Caveman. I used to have some of the Standard '40s comic books (also Alley Oop and Johnny Hazard).

...did he get a promotion? Yes. In The Brave and the Bold #52 (by Kanigher and Kubert), Cloud was promoted from lieutenant to captain. Sgt. Rock and Sgt. Jeb Stuart were promoted to 2nd lieutenant in that same issue (though Rock was almost instantly demoted back to sergeant in his Our Army at War series).
Cei-U! I summon the commission cluster!
And the poor guy remained a sergeant, and Bulldozer is still a corporal, all the way into the late '70s - at least according to the Brave & the Bold Special from 1978 (which also features Batman and Deadman, and Sherlock Holmes and the Loch Ness Monster).

I'll see your list and raise you... (...) and Hauptman Deutschland Well, if you mentioned Hauptmann Deutschland, you can't leave out Hauptmann Englande.
Which leads me to: Captain Airstrip-One Captain Albion Captain Angleterre
Captain Commonwealth Captain England
Captain Empire Captain UK Kaptain Briton
...and that's just from Alan Moore's run...

Another all-time great Captain... ...did he get a promotion? Yes, later on. I just liked that picture of him.

brutalis , cool thread. I voted for Cap (Steve), Mar-Vell, and Picard. In terms of comics I see this guy (below) hasn't been mentioned yet, so I'd like to toss his hat, er space helmet, into the ring. Captain Science debuted in 1950 and his backstory/origin--he rescues a dying/trapped alien and as a reward is given an advanced weapon to do battle against the forces of evil--reminds me of the origins used later on for Silver Age luminaries Age such as Green Lantern and Insect Queen This 1951 CS cover is one of the earliest of the ever-popular "Carrying Wounded Warrior/Friend" variety.

Captain Proton
Points for mentioning this, just because Lt. Paris was pretty much the only character in any Trek series that did cool s*** like this in the holodeck.
