I actually like the black garbed look of Namor form the Bronze Age. For me, the green speedo look is a little off-putting, especially if you have been to a beach where lots of hirsute French-Canadien middle-aged men (most of them kin for me) gather on a summer vacation in Maine. Nothing of a heroic sensibility is left in that look after that.... -M Hey! I'm a (very) hirsute French-Canadian who loves Maine!

I am a hirsute French Canadian who lived in Maine for a few years as a kid, and whose extended family often vacationed there. The site of men of my heritage in speedos on the beach as a kid is still not something I have fully recovered from... -M

All things considered, I actually like this look. I may despise everything it's associated with, but that's another thread...

I don't remember Gil Kane's version and I've never seen a New Warriors comic - looking at some of the covers, her skin must have turned Atlantean blue at some point. Bill Everett's original version was a radiantly pretty Caucasian-skinned blonde in a bikini. Here's the Kane version from MTiO #1: Can't help with the New Warriors look. Cei-U! Have scan, will travel! #2, although it was the first issue called MTIO in the cover indica. (# 1, was "Marvel Two ON One.")

Careful now, that TT fan Dave Elyea could be a classic comic curmudgeon in hiding and start designing your clothes as retaliation for that comment. -M

Everything about Mal after they decided to put him in a costume sucked royally. They quickly destroyed a unique character to make him "fit in".

Mal Duncan was one of DC's first black heroes, but this costume was a monstrosity: It's nice to see that even after being largely raised by Bruce, Dick's still considerate enough to know when social lies to spare peoples feeling might be best used...

It's also appropriate to note that he still apparently thought that the short-panties look was a good one, so his judgment is suspect at best.

In Mal's defense, he ditches the costume at the end of the issue. During the New Teen Titans era, he was very rarely shown and then looked like this:

Almost as bad. Not quite, but that's only because of the egregious hideousness of the other.

Cyclops's 90s costume was… er… not to my taste. The only positive aspect I saw in it was that the head was uncovered. But the rest? It's like the designer went like this: "let's use Cyke's original look and add straps everywhere because it's the 90s. Heck, while we're at it let's double the straps everywhere." I'm not a big fan of the "black integral condom" look he went for during the Astonishing X-Men run either.
