I've heard that, although the letters page didn't reflect it, reader mail was heavily negative about his version (except for Namorita; folks seemed to love Namorita). Yes, I was 15 when she debuted. I remember Namorita very clearly. Remember her outfit in Marvel Two-In-One #2? It's been close to forty years since I read it but I haven't forgotten that comic!
Gil Kane art!

I remember Namorita very clearly. First time I saw her was in New Warriors, #44 I think was the first issue I bought. Though I wouldn't include her costume in that team here, as it seemed functional, feminine and appropriate for a gal whose Atlantean.

I don't remember Gil Kane's version and I've never seen a New Warriors comic - looking at some of the covers, her skin must have turned Atlantean blue at some point. Bill Everett's original version was a radiantly pretty Caucasian-skinned blonde in a bikini.

Yep, that's the Everett look I remember, as done by Kane.

Yes, at one point...early 2000s, I think, they physically changed her to blue and more scaly like the "original Atlanteans".

The 90s New Warriors brought about this Namorita, which minus scales I guess, just got blue skin and a more aquatic look rather than human look. Though I don't remember the changes to get powers if any. It's the only New Warriors I've read so I've not seen the one you speak of.

She had several looks during New Warriors and she has changed back and forth a bit over the years between skin colours IIRC. Last I saw her (DnA Nova) she was Caucasian again. (Haven't read the currrent New Warriors series, but I don't think she is in the current line-up).
I quite like the blue look they had for her (they did have a terrible photocover when they introduced that look though).

Spiderman is my favorite Marvel Hero - At one point he fought a villain by the name of Chameleon, this is the worst rendering of him ever. Chameleon from Marvel Comics

How about this rendering of Jubilee from X-Men? Terrible!

I had forgotten she was in Abnett & Lanning's Nova, though I don't have the whole series. I think up to around #20 or so. So she might not have been in it yet. Are you talking about this one? It was my first New Warriors comic. How about this rendering of Jubilee from X-Men? Terrible! Not all the AoA costumes were a improvement or at least a equally interesting look as their original 616 counterparts at the time. But for me, there were a lot of AoA costumes that would be included in a "Favorite Character's Favorite Costume" thread. Though not many of them from Gambit & the X-ternals were that good.

That's the cover, yes. And Namorita indeed turned up at the end of the series. (Issue #32 starts the storyline that would bring her back). And I can forgive them for having bad costumes in AoA. They were meant to look like they were put together from whatever they could scavenge.

They were meant to look like they were put together from whatever they could scavenge. Ah, I see. An interesting read at all? I enjoyed up to where I left off with Nova. It along with Abnett & Lanning's GotG, and Darkhawk are a few of the post Conquest stories I would like to catch up with at some point. Good point on the AoA costumes. It never really clicked that in a environment like that, scavenging for a functional and protective armor/costume, would be appropriate. Some of them didn't change much (Cyclops being a hugely noticeable one, and for that matter, himself as a character either) but some like Nightcrawler, Sabertooth/Wildchild and Blink's were far better than their 616 versions.
